Not that I saw. The ones I saw that were acceptable were all at least $900, and mostly closer to $1000.

Yes there are, the building I live in has only one unti for rent and its 660. There are many in the Roosevelt Historic Neighborhood, they are smaller, historic buildings that are newly renovated and privately owned but beautiful and great! You'll just have to look around, no traditional apartment complexes with offices in the downtown area like in suburbia.

I am convinced that HX Guy's name is Phil Gordon.

Hi Phiiiiiiiiiiiilllll***waves hello***. Why didn't you include any pics of the city office buildings where you work at? When can we expect these building projects to be finished and more shades along the light rail stops?

LOL, Seriously, I did save this thread for if and when I do move to the area, so thanks!

I was in the area today and had my camera with me and after seeing a lot of people ask about downtown, especially people moving here from the east coast that want to still get that "city feel", I decided to snap a few shots of what in my opinion is the best residential pocket downtown.

The area is bound by Central Ave to 3rd Ave, and Roosevelt to Portland Streets.
As the pictures show, this clearly is not what typical Phoenix looks like and really looks more like something pulled straight out of an east coast city and transplanted here.
I don't know all the details of the buildings, but from driving by I noticed a few retail/service spots, a couple restaurants, a beautiful park, and light rail station literally right outside.

I've asked before...but if A) you are renting an apartment and B) you are working downtown...then why on earth would you not live in a place like this vs a suburb complex with a 45+ minute commute?

Light rail station directly out front.

Italian Grocery and Deli on the corner.

Residential street in area.

Chain restaurants/coffee in unique buildings within walking distance.

Actually, these pics reminds me little bit of West Loop in Chicago....

You are right, they do look and feel exactly like the city places, right down to even how small they are...

Hey guys, i have a question. The people who work downtown, commuting from burbs, how do they get to work? Does downtown employers provide parking for all of the workers? For instance, like in Chicago, obviously most people take that Metra train. What are the options for transportation mode for people who work downtown and live in burbs in phoenix?

I'd say downtown is about split as far as parking goes. City/State/County workers, and about 1/2 of copper square private industry, have parking garages that they provide spots for their employees free of charge. The rest of them may have spots available in garages reserved for the employee, but you usually come out of pocket between $40 and $70 a month, depending on where the garage is located. (which is a decent price compared to most other large cities.)

Most of downtown PHX is government workers, and law firms, and major companies. For city/county employees, you can get a free annual pass for the Rapid/Valley Metro system. Most of the bigger corporations offer a discount program of some sort, some free, some not. If you use the RAPID, you can park at the park-n-rides that are situated along the outskirts of most of the popular suburban housing choices.

Vanpool is also offered through several bigger companies, at a subsidized cost. Vanpool can work better for employees who have hours that don't match up with the Rapid schedule.

Share the Ride is part of the Valley Metro website - offers ridematching service for people trying to get downtown. Lists starting and ending locations of people looking to carpool, as well as normal hours, and then you just email until you find people that you can deal with.

Light rail isn't much of an option since it pretty much only covers downtown. It might be useful if you want to drive yourself into downtown, and then skip out of work for the day to go to Tempe Town Lake

You can check out Ride Share, vanpool, bus schedules, and RAPID schedules all at www.valleymetro.org

For details of parking garages, and costs, it depends on what part of downtown you're looking at, but here's the map for Copper Square. You can choose the parking icon, and then selecting the parking garage you're interested in will give you the monthly cost, plus a phone number to see if they have spaces available.
