Two questions:

1. Are there any decent Chinese restaurants in the Fashion Square area that are NOT chains (so not P. F. Chang, for instance)?

2. Are there any Chinese places that sell roast meats by the pound (like roast duck or suckling pig) anywhere east of Central?

For that matter, do you have any favorite Chinese places? Not just the names - tell us the location and why you like them.

1) none that I can think of

2) Try Mekong Plaza at Dobson & Main in Mesa. The flagship restaurant, Mekong Palace, often has whole roast ducks and suckling pigs. I'm not sure if they sell by the pound or just by the whole animal. If the restaurant doesn't sell it the way you want, my guess is that the Mekong Market in the same shopping center will.

Liyuen aka Westside Window (7th Ave & W Pima). Food is good, cheap and large portions. A great value. Take out only.

China Wok, on Scottsdale Rd, South of Thomas. It’s been a little while since I have been there but it was very good every time I was there. And it’s in the same parking lot as Defalcos, which is very yummy (but not Chinese).

George and Sons Deer Valley &101 corridor is tasty. Ate there recently. Decent portions, delicious lettuce wraps. Jade Star in Sun City is great as well.

Default Best Brazilian churrascaria in Scottsdale?

If you haven't had Brazilian churrascaria and you're an enthusiastic carnivore, you're missing out.

I know there's a Fogo de Chão in Scottsdale and I'm sure we will dine there soon. But what about others?

Thank you, all. Some of these are far beyond my range, but I'll make a note, anyway.

And I'll check out the China Wok.

I was grumbling that there are so few options in Scottsdale, thinking that there must be many interesting diners - but then I realized that the restauranteurs probably are leery of higher rents.

To the person who huffily informed me the thread was about CHINESE food:

Thank you, I can read.

I don't know how my thread starter ended up here. But if it's going to keep you awake tonight, you might contact a moderator. I can't delete my post.

I second George & Sons. I frequent the one on Via Linda and Frank Lloyd Wright in Scottsdale. Not exactly close to the Fashion Square area.

George explained to us that he doesn't cheap out on meats and seafood, using only the finest quality, and it shows when you taste their food.
