I currently live in Prescott, AZ, but I'm planning on moving to Phoenix and I want to pursue a career with the Phoenix Police Department. I've looked on the website and seen all of the steps that I need to take before I'm accepted into the Police Academy, but I want to know specifically how long this process can take. Without going into too much detail, I'll say that I'm in a bit of a rush to get into the Academy.

Is anyone here familiar with the hiring process? More than anything, I want to know how long it would take, what with taking all of the exams and tests and everything.

I know several Phoenix police officers. Often and like any job, it is who you know. So if it was me, I'd do a ride along with a police Sargent. Why? Partially to see what they do. As important, you will have an advocate that you can ask questions to. But they would be motivated to help you. You see, if you are a current police officer in PHX and you go into the force, they get a very nice spiff. I forget what the amount is but it would be worth their time.

As you might guess, you shouldn't let them know your hidden motivation. But an evening ride along could help in more ways than one.
