What's the deal here in Phoenix area, Scottsdale, rest of AZ ?

At 65mph I seem to be pretty much the slowest driver on 51 or 101 ... ?

Thanks.
I typically go 70-75 in the middle lanes and for the most part that's ok. In the furthest left lane, people seem to go 85-90... lol

I rarely see DPS pull over people for speeding, but I see them pull over people for HOV lane violations during rush hour much more frequently.

When I took my kid for a driver's license test a few years ago, there was a checklist on the evaluation form that listed varioius grounds for immediate failure. One of them was "Speeding" and in parentheses next to that it said "greater than 10 mph over the posted speed". For real. So you can even speed on your driving test! Just keep it 10 or less. FWIW, another was speeding in a school zone and that one did not have a tolerance.

Not that I want to speed, i sorta agree with MN's physics lesson, but then again, it's so damn refreshing not to live in California's police state. I have LEO (regular active patrol) friends there, and they want to leave !

Be careful on the side streets, many cities have speed cameras on them, and many aren't set for 10 over grace period.

Scottsdale, Mesa and PV are the ones I know of. The only ones that aren't set for 9 over are the ones in School Zones. If you are speeding in a school zone you SHOULD get a ticket...my opinion of course.

Scottsdale's camera website says they are set for 10(11) over. Schools are 5. There aren't many cameras around the metro anymore compared to what there used to be. Scottsdale is the worst. I saw on TV where Scottsdale is moving their's up to the north side.

CHP needs to focus on pulling over those that don't understand staying to the right if not passing.

I have to play ******* going lane to lane to get anywhere in CA. When I flash lights or wave etc. I get nothing. Complete ignorance. I don't get it. Someone there told me that they relaxed the driving requirements/testing recently in order to increase revenue from licensing and registration. A little conspiracy-ish, but based on what I've seen... plausible.

But back on topic, 10 over is generally ok. That said, I know to only do 5 over on I8 where I live (Yuma). Then kick it up to 10 over.

Do not flash lights in LA on someone in front of you ... even in a very good neighborhood you can flash the wrong car, and it's gang bangers all over you. I know this first hand

Good advice for Phoenix too. Not so much gang bangers but hotheads with guns. Everybody here has a gun on the seat (well not everyone, but many, many). The same applies to blasting your horn. The only time you can do that is behind some fool who doesn't get it on when the light turns green or at snowbirds more generally. They know they have it coming and will not shoot you for that. In general, with so many guns in AZ it is a good thing to go easy on the aggressive driving - speed if you must, but don't be a jerk about it. We have a lot of road rage killings.

I know you are supposed to get AZ plates within so many days, but when I moved here from Colorado I left my plates on until they were close to expiring. I did work at a shopping center and ADOT left a couple of notices on my car telling me I needed to register here. After 7 months I went in and got my DL and plate. With so many snowbirds here there are a lot of cars with out of state license plates. They don't pay much notice unless they see you parked in one place every day. Or if you get pulled over, probably.
