Well, you probably know about Luke AFB, but F-35s are a rare sight at SDL. Or so they say.

Of course, "they" also said the sonic booms people claimed to have heard didn't come from F-35s.

As far as why it happens, SEZ gets occasional military traffic believed to be training flights. SDL probably does as well.

The USUAL places for landing military aircraft at civilian fields that can accept them ("P" fields, as they are known in the US) are places that have NG or ANG units... think Topeka, Fresno, Tulsa, Toledo, Birmingham, etc. The requirements for oil samples and servicing also drive the location. An F-4 or T-38 likely could not use Scottsdale because the pneumatic starters needed, the MA1A "Huffer", are museum pieces now.

Likely the reason to use SDL was Luke was too busy. Or they just like the restaurant at the FBO a lot better than the flightline kitchen at Luke.

@Fluffy, I heard the name Luke AFB, but didn't know what it was... just googled it, thanks.
