We are retiring to AZ this fall, we will not have any earned income in AZ but I will be picking up ACA coverage through Arizona as of 10/1/2019 so address will change as of that date and wife does collect social security and medicare benefits etc? Will we need to file AZ income tax as well as our former home state? or just AZ or what?

We both have teacher pensions that I will change the address as of 10/1/2019 so that may be considered for AZ state income tax?

Not that it is a huge difference to us, just don't know what the procedure is when you move states after you are retired in the middle of a tax year, and all your income is basically unearned.

Your pensions are taxable income so you'd file part year state income tax returns in both states.

You will file nonresident in your old state and part year resident in AZ

Not sure how much three months of income is for you, so you can check here for more details:

One good thing about Arizona is the tax credit for charities, where you can donate to charity and reduce your tax liability dollar for dollar.
