Hello All,

I had a question regarding traffic. I did a "traffic" search and didn't quite get the info I was looking for. I was generally looking for the traffic commuting patterns. I'm not sure where I plan to relocate to yet but using phoenix downtown as a reference point. I may work there, not sure yet. My job will be in the office 75% of the time and various jobsites the remaining 25%.

Is the pattern in the morning typically North to South, South to North, East to West, and West toward east?? Those parameters is what I'm assuming is the commute to downtown Phoenix would look like in the AM.

If that is the case I imagine it would be the opposite in the PM.

Is this a somewhat safe assumption? It will help shape where I decide to relocate to.

I'm used to an 18 mile drive taking basically an hour plus longer at times. I would like to lower that obviously.

Thanks for any replies.

The way I think of it is, traffic heads towards downtown Phx in the am and the opposite in the pm.

Yep, like pretty much every major city.

Well, So Cal traffic patterns aren't as predicable as they used to be. That's part of why I was asking.

Also the 101 from Gilbert/Chandler/Tempe to Scottsdale in heavy northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon/evening.

Live as close to your work as possible is the general rule, and yes, AM traffic towards downtown, PM away for the most part.

The opposite commute is to head north in the morning, opposite coming home. E.g., I live in Phoenix near the 51, work in north Scottsdale. Never any traffic on Highway 51 during my commute in the morning and evening. NEVER.

101 in Tempe can be heavy both ways in the morning and afternoon.

That's still an into Phoenix/out of Phoenix pattern, with part of the traffic just to/from Scottsdale.
