I feel like everyone knows me on this board...is that the feeling one gets when one regularly reads/posts to a board like this? Or is that being arrogant? I guess so.

Having said that, I'm the guy who is moving from a Midwestern college town to Phoenix this summer to accept a new teaching assignment (tired of teaching in a cornfield...so a desert, even with all of the scary things people like to say about Phoenix, are fine with me...I won't be one of those transplants who complains...)

BUT...I need to find an apartment. My job is at Sunnyslope High School (Dunlap/Central). I'd like to live within relative closeness to a good bookstore (chain or independent); coffee shop (again, chain or indep.); some decent resaturants (again chain or independent); and a movie theatre...I'm thinking within a 15 minute drive...

I've heard mostly: live downtown because it's great for young single people

And I have heard: Don't live downwon...but also don't live in Sunnyslope...so when people give me "boundaries" it's difficult to plot out in relation to all of the apartment magazines I picked up in Phoenix. I've somewhat ruled out Tempe, Giblert, Peoria, Glendale, Scottsdale, etc...should I though based simply on not wanting a drive to the schoo that's longer than 20 minutes in the morning?

Thanks for suggestions and advice!

I would go a little more north and east of there in Phoenix, it's close to the 101 and 51 and bookstores in Phx and restuarants in N Scottsdale. I lived in that area for 9 years and never had any problems.
