We live up near I-17 and Carefree Highway and need a recommendation for a sprinkler repair company.

Through troubleshooting I've determined that we don't have a leak in the system, but one zone in the backyard that does not shut off properly. As a result, we get a ton of standing water and a high water bill as a result.

I did some troubleshooting this morning and ran the system through its normal morning cycle (runs at two separate times). When it runs through the cycle for the second time, the first zone stays active throughout the entire cycle and continues to run even if the sprinkler control computer is set to the "off" part on the dial. I had to shut the water off to the entire system so the zone would stop spraying water.

I'm guessing it is either the computer itself or the electronics that control the stop/start of that zone. I'm leaning more toward the computer since the zone properly shutoffs when the system completes its first cycle of the day.

Any recommendations for a reputable company would be appreciated!

I have used Sprinkler Pro a few times. They have come when they said they would and they have resolved the problems.

I found a number for Sprinkler Pro.

They are now part of "Arizona Landscape Group". They'll be out here Friday morning to take a look at our system. I post a follow-up with how things went.

Default Probably not your controller . . .

Your problem is almost certainly not electrical. A competent irrigation repair person should be able to positively diagnose your problem. My guess is that you have a diaphragm going out on the valve that continues to run. If that is the problem, the repair person should replace both the diaphragm and the solenoid, the only two moving parts in the valve. Too, there is normally no reason one valve should last longer or shorter than any other valve in your system--so you might get ready to do this again for the rest of the valves.

Does your system use an electronic "Master Valve." If not, you might consider having one installed. These valves only supply water to the system when a regular zone valve is running. That way, if you have a valve that has failed, it runs only while some part of the system is supposed to run. When all valves are supposed to be off, the Master Valve turns off, limiting your water loss.

Disclosure: I'm Doug Saylor, the owner of an irrigation repair company in Waco,Texas. [mod] sorry, can't link to business [/mod]

The guy from Arizona Landscape Group left a bit more than an hour ago. I would give them a thumbs up.

The guy thinks that one of the lines was clogged by a rock or piece of pvc from a prior repair job that was done before we took possession of the house back in July. He did not think it was the computer since the zone in question did not fail all the time.

I asked him what he thought might cause it to fail again and he pointed to the valve for that zone. He commented the valves in my system looked like something cheap you would pick up at Home Depot.

He replaced the valve, showed me how to properly program my computer to run on Program A and Program B for my grass zones and drip system zones. He also noticed that one of my drippers in the front yard was missing its head and replaced it too.

I'd say he was here for close to two hours, replaced the valve per my request, and put on that missing dripper head. The cost for the visit was for $309. When I called to make the reservation, they were up front with the cost per hour so there were no surprises there.

Don't know what territory these guys cover, but I've done well with Kredit (father Lloyd Kredit and son Dave Kredit). Sorry, don't have their number offhand, but I think a search would turn them up.

Thought I'd re-visit this thread one last time.

Our sprinkler system ran the last several days on its normal schedule. So far, no more flooding in the backyard so it looks like replacing that one valve fixed the problem.

As a side note, we got our water bill this week and it was just shy of $300 due to the bad valve!
