After looking at neighborhoods in N. Phoenix and Scottsdale, between 51 and 101 above Shea (new job in Peoria but husband works at 202/Higley in Mesa), we decided those areas weren't for us. We think that we may like the areas in Cave Creek just north of 101 and around Scottsdale Rd to Pima/101 and above Cactus.

Does anyone have experience with these neighborhoods? We are a couple in our 50's, no kids, like to go to places like Scottsdale Quarter, breweries and wine, good food, movies, and occasionally a play or other event. But, mostly homebodies who need to get out more : )

Home cost under $500K if possible but can go up to $525K, around 2200 sf but okay w 1900 if it's nice and has room for a pool and outdoor kitchen in the yard. Tall order? Thanks for your input!

202/Higley is going to be a long drive for your DH. He may be going against traffic once he hits the 202 though, that might help.

You don't want to go as far north as Cave Creek. It is too far from the 101 to meet your needs. The key is to stay within a 1 mile or so from the Loop 101. Otherwise it will take you 15 minutes to get to the 101.

You can try Scarlett Canyon in Phoenix, Eagle Point in Scottsdale, or the new Paradise Ridge development in Phoenix near Mayo and the 101.

When you say "in Cave Creek" and "just" north of the 101, you are talking about two different places. Cave Creek is too far. Even "just north" makes for a LONG trip for your husband. Spending that much of a day in the car can get old really fast.

This may sound crazy but have you tried South Scottsdale? There are some nice remodels there in your price range, I believe, with either pools or room for a pool. It's close to Old Town and Fashion Square and more-or-less equidistant from your two job locations. I don't know if the commute works but it's a heckuva lot closer than Cave Creek.

^this. Why would your husband commute from Cave Creek to Mesa? I don’t think you understand how far north Cave Creek is. It’s certainly not “just north of the 101”. South Scottsdale is where you may want to look.

We lived in Tatum Ranch near Cave Creek and Tatum for 14 years, it's essentially one of the most southern tips of "Cave Creek" (way south of CC town). We had to commute long distances literally everywhere. Nothing is close - there are a very small handful of mediocre restaurants that get old fast, NOWHERE for good wine, 25 minutes to the Quarter. It's just really far from everything unless you're living just north of the 101 off Cave Creek Rd. 202/Higley is an hour drive in the morning, easy. 45 minutes in the morning to central Phx, it's 45-60 minutes to 202/Higley (minimum, I commuted to Chandler sometimes and it was often 1.25 hours in bad weather or traffic), and 25 minutes to the quarter.

Budget-wise I think you're good there, though. We sold our 4br/2ba, 2200SF + pool and outdoor kitchen for $450 not too long ago. If you want to "get out more", I would move someplace more hip than Cave Creek.

Yes; OP sounds a bit confused as to where the town of Cave Creek is.

I will never understand how people determine that any quality of life includes a long commute.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe she wants her husband away from the house an extra 2 hours a day? lol

I would check Camelback East - specifically Bilmore area - lots to do - walkable - and about midway between your two jobs.
