Hey everyone, my bf and I are CONSIDERING a move to AZ within the next year or two. My job has offices in both Peoria and Chandler. I'm hoping to be able to transfer so I was just wanting to know which town might suit us better. I'm not going to go on about my budget because I can search rental costs myself. I'm more interested in the vibe of each town, traffic, things to do, etc.

We are in our early to mid 30s..no kids..we have two dogs..love the outdoors..love dining out, dog parks, hiking, art & music, and prefer somewhere more relaxed and quiet with less insane traffic. Bf lived in Queen Creek in 2014 and he loved it. I've only visited during the winter and loved it...I'm aware of the extreme heat..we live in Kansas..both willing to try it out in AZ while we can.

Thanks for sharing your opinions!

Neither. Both would be boring for a childless couple. Chandler by a long shot though if you had to choose.

Based on the info you provided and what you are looking for, I would suggest Peoria. Less traffic. More of a quiet vibe. Getting more and more options for entertainment, restaurants, etc. Chandler has more of that, no doubt, but also a little more expensive housing and more traffic.

If looking at Chandler then be aware that there is one area where noise pollution may be an issue for you and the dogs.

We live in far n.w. Peoria (near the 303 and Happy Valley) and it's nice up here. No night life to speak of and mostly chain eateries. I refer to Bell Rd and 83rd as the "downtown" of Peoria, near the stadium, and there's a ton of shopping and eats there.

I'm sure somewhere there's a thread or website on hiking in the Phoenix area. Lots of dogs all over.

I would go a short distance from Peoria and pick the Westgate area. They keep building more and more. I would stay away from the Easy Valley unless your a Mormon or want worse weather.

There's more than enough for a young couple in Chandler. Tempe/Scottsdale are where the hookup spots are so you won't need that. Chandler has great shopping/dining/bars/theaters/casinos, etc.

I don't know enough about Peoria. Regarding the guy above about noise complaints, that probably impacts 3,500 people out of 260,000 and is being addressed so it's a non issue.

Peoria; much less traffic, up and coming one of the hottest areas around the valley, tons of hiking/nature/near major highways

And, non scientifically, I feel the SE valley area gets ALOT worse storms than we do up in the NW valley..

OP says they want quiet and less traffic - people respond with Chandler and Tempe. Places with ridiculous traffic.

Peoria "area" would be much more ideal for what you're looking for. It's quieter and just enough to do so you won't get bored.

Well, I assume you mean EAST Valley. There are thousands of people here in the East Valley who are not Mormons- particularly in Chandler or Tempe, but I don't think they are near the majority in any East Valley city. Do we get more duststorms out here? Probably yes, but otherwise the weather is the same.

I'd pick Chandler for the OP, just because I know it better. The traffic is heavy at times in both places, but if you are living and working in the same city, I don't see that as a big issue.
