Looks like another Queen Creek has approved annexation of another portion of San Tan Valley, the Encanterra community. 62% of residents are in favor of the annexation. Now there is a 30-day waiting period, and the annexation will be final on November 19 if there are no legal challenges.

I know some complain about QC cherry-picking the most affluent neighborhoods of San Tan Valley, but this is what most Encanterra residents want. The same was true with Ironwood Crossing. Remember that annexation requires approval by the majority of the residents of a neighborhood.

As I ve stated before - I dislike two things about AZ annexation law:

1. Being able to cross county lines - just wierd to me and those residents have different rules than the rest of the city residents.

2. The ability for nearby cities to veto if they want.

Arizona is not alone in allowing municipalities to cross county lines; many other states allow it as well. As for cities being able to veto, I think that applies if there is a planning area conflict.

What are the consequences beside police and fire protection? Will their taxes change?

Well, they will have to pay property taxes to the Town of Queen Creek now.

Most everybody who lives in far flung exurbia does so for two reasons: it's often cheaper, and they prefer more open spaces & less citification. Therefore, it really makes no sense for cities to annex all these exurban communities because it eventually leads to more development, higher taxes, and things which these people supposedly moved there to get away from. Anybody who lives in those kinds of developments and favors annexation is being hypocritical as far as I'm concerned. Communities like Encanterra would be better of staying unincorporated, or perhaps self incorporating as their own municipalities.
