I am more impressed that a market is not only selling one, but two newspapers!

The New York Times will actually tailor its front cover depending on the area it is in and it's political favor, but it is an international news source.

But hey back to NYT vs AZ Republic, maybe AZ Repub can get a nice Sarah Jeong on their editorial board to spice things up.

I was a Republic reader until the Clinton administration. That's when I started seeing the slide to the left.

No confirmation yet. OP only mentioned seeing headlines on the newspaper rack.

It is a local newspaper so if it doesn't cover local topics, who else will? It clearly has a liberal slant in my opinion. I don't mind that since the rest of the state is politically red, so it is nice to have an opposing view. But it does become a bit much at times. I believe the newspaper endorsed Hillary Clinton in the last election, which was a change from previous nominees.

I would also argue the newspaper is very nativist. It will have articles arguing against development in favor of preserving Arizona to a former time. I have read a fair number of op eds critical of new developments such as Scottsdale's Southbridge 2 project and even the expansion of light rail at the airport years ago.

I'm glad to see the Republic emphasize Arizona and Phoenix content. Better to have a defined niche and preserve the vital role of local journalism than to make a futile effort to compete with out-of-state media.
Besides that you're missing the point - it's not a matter of what you can find elsewhere - we could commend the Republic if it did a good job of covering local matters in depth, including doing investigative work. But it doesn't.
