At the market today, there was an easy comparison of the Sunday Arizona Republic and the New York Times on their newspaper racks.

The Arizona Republic had two front-page stories. Both were about Arizona.

The New York Times had six front page stories. Two on international news (one was on Russia), three on national politics (Trump and the Democratic primaries), and one on the coronavirus.

Traditionally, the good thing about newspapers is that they weren't "curated" for you. That meant you were likely exposed to a broader range of subjects. Unlike your internet feeds.

Ones a local market newspaper and the other (even though it has a city name) is an international news source. Local stories are the point of a local newspaper. This thread is dumb

There is little the Arizona Republic can tell me about national and international events that I can't learn in more detail from other sources. There is a great deal, however, that a local paper can tell me about city and state events that are not covered by national news outlets. I'm glad to see the Republic emphasize Arizona and Phoenix content. Better to have a defined niche and preserve the vital role of local journalism than to make a futile effort to compete with out-of-state media.

I for one am glad someone in the media is finally taking an interest in Russia.

Arizona Republic is a rag. A left-wing opinion column combined with a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party. They can't slide under the waves too soon for me.

Actually, they have quite a bit of commentary that seems to favor conservatism, as do some of their articles.

However, OP, you aren't required to buy it, anymore than I am required to watch FoxNews.

The fact that the NYTimes is being sold in Arizona should tell you that it's a newspaper focused on the entire US (with international news as well). Do you think people in Manhattan also see the NYTimes being sold next to the Arizona Republic?
