The Ostrich Festival is still on. Gotta love the irony in that.

I'm not as worried about mortality as I am with the rapid spread, once it starts, and the local medical community's ability to treat a potential large number of cases in a short period of time. We do have a large elderly population here, and they're being hit the worst.

Not specifically Arizona, but it does impact our state more than most: LDS church has suspended all meetings and services worldwide.

Arizona Dept of Health says we have 9 cases of which at least two, IIRC, are community spread. An interesting fact from the Ohio Dept of Health today is that epidemiologic models show that if you have two cases of community spread, you have at least 1% infection rate in a population. That would mean, we could very well have around 60,000 infected persons moving about in Arizona. Ohio closed its schools and started serious social distancing. In Arizona we see private employers and entities taking action but little to nothing but "wash your hands" from our state officials.

Thanks for keeping a little humor in your life but do take the necessary precautions to stay healthy. And btw, nothing wrong in staying away from people. I find many of them annoying as anyway.

Yeah, I think there may be a false sense of security out there. I know that I don't worry that much because I work at home and there is less density here than in places like New York. But with the dearth of testing, how can you really know? People returning from affected areas overseas and showing symptoms, still cannot get tested because the infrastructure such as they have in China & S Korea is not in place. We need a leader who can deliver not only the tests but the means to perform them and obtain the results. Such a leader is not currently in the White House.

My prediction is by Christmas Arizona will have about no more then 500-1000 severe cases and a 100-300 dead that will be it sounds like a lot but over a year not really we have large retirement community they be hit hardest. Where just lot more spread out here in Arizona then places like China.

The AZ state health dept says modeling shows we could have 70000 people walking around with COVID-19 right now.
