There's basically nowhere in the Phoenix metro area where you would have to drive anywhere near 30 minutes to get to a grocery store. I must have 7 or 8 within less than 10 minutes. Not to worry.

You can't throw a rock in the Phoenix area without hitting a grocery store, circle K, real estate agent, and a Filibertos.

I live in an adjacent zip code, 85226 (Chandler). The foothills area is the newer part of Awatukee. It's a nice area. I can't speak to traffic issues as I've never done a morning commute from there. As mentioned before, the new freeway may have helped with morning traffic.
