There are many well-off people in their 60s and 70s who come here and spend tons of money in the spring.

It's really disappointing that people cannot stop their political bickering and grandstanding for even a few weeks, to try and knock this thing down. Every time I go out I see people essentially thumbing their noses at the guidelines. So now we've pissed away April, IMO because of people who are still on the "hoax" bandwagon. The daily count of new cases is up about 50% since Ducey's EO went into effect.
Unfortunately the virus has become more of a political football now and will only get worse (watch what's in the next "relief" package).
Not sure what you mean by "knock this thing down." We closed the economy, the most drastic step imaginable, to stagger the strain on hospitals and that's been achieved. Remember a month or so ago all the talk about ventilator shortages?
There is no cure. There is no vaccine and there's no guarantee we'll find one.

So now what do we do?
One thing is for sure, if you are over 55, with any health conditions, be very careful.

Employers can force you to return to work if you quit can't get unemployment they base their ideas on Trump who rejected the CDC guidelines. Doug Ducey is a lap dog for Trump he do what ever his master asks of him. Trump is losing in the polls by the day he wants to open the country ASAP so he can attempt to rescue his chances of reelection.

Now were seeing a shift in senate seats could end up with Democrat majority. The Republican party will pressure governors like Ducey to reopen sooner then later.

Were suppose to see cases go down not up and have a testing apparatus in place to quickly test people do contact tracing instead of all the things we need to do so we can reopen without a vaccine just going to wing it hope for the best. I know most here are retired, or semi-retired so can sit back and hold up in your house rest of us are at the mercy of our employers.

Furthermore, 410 of those deaths are people 65 and older. (and since we have a 1.8 million people in AZ who are over the age of 60 that's not surprising but a pretty low number nonetheless)

And we are #33 in death rates per 100,000 people.

Seriously stop with the panic-stricken posts.

Why all of the hostility, violence, and even murder in one instance, over being asked to wear a face mask? My wife was at Costco this week and there was a man in line who was yelling at an employee over the face mask policy. It's no secret that the company officially started requiring customers to wear masks. He damn well knew about it because he had a mask in his pocket, but he was hell bent on making a scene.

I told her if something like that happens again, just come home. We don't toilet paper and meat THAT BADLY.

Some dude squawking at Costco (saw the same type of thing from a cow at Sam's trying to buy more meat than allowed) will be nothing compared to the chaos in the months to come if we can't figure out a way to get people back while trying to manage this virus.

You see the guy at dollar Tree wiping his nose on employees shirt after he was told to wear a mask.

Then there is these 3 who shot a security guard killed him over his request of them to wear a mask.

The recommended precautions are in place toward exactly that end... managing spread of the virus and helping return to some normalcy sooner than without any precautions.

That's what's so infuriating about this. Those screaming the loudest about the economy and normalcy taking priority, fail to understand that by rushing this and ignoring recommendations, they're preolonging the restrictions, causing further economic harm, etc. It's maddening.

tl;dr - wear a dang mask.

That's just it, first it was help the hospitals, then flatten the curve, then we hear people saying 18 months out for a vaccine then we have pols taking the opportunity to push their agenda. It's never ending and we will see a lot more destruction down the road as a result of the response to the virus.

There are multiple objectives in taming a pandemic.
