Minimum wage I think under 3 dollars an hour.

Even in the late 80's and early 90's I remember 70-90 cents a gallon after gas, and oil was no longer price controlled.

It was still less than a dollar in the late 90s as well.

When I moved here in 2001, Arco AMPM was selling 87 octane for 89 cents per gallon

I remember when I was in college in the early 2000s, the price just sort of exploded and never really went back, except I think for one brief period. It was still around a dollar or less in the very early 2000s, but then in 2008 right before the recession hit, it was up to $4.50 or so. Astronomical jump, especially in such a short time. After being stable at less than a dollar for what, decades, from what I understand? There was a crash when the recession hit, but never back down to sub dollar. At least not where I was in Silicon Valley (moved to AZ in 2014).

In the 1980's Reagan got rid of the gas price controls and let it trade freely on the market that resulted in fall in gas prices to an average low around $1 a gallon. Then a steady climb as demand rose and OPEC started to control the market more until 2008 when oil prices hit $100 a barrel.

Then we had fracking and that all changed OPEC has lost control of the market at the mercy of these oil fracking. The problems that OPEC faces much of the middle east authoritarian governments control the population by paying them with oil money keeping people happy. In order to keep the paying at the same level they have to pump more oil make up for the lower cost. That causes oil prices to fall this is the same situation in Russia.

I still suspect we could see 50 cents a gallon somewhere in the US. I think even in Arizona we could see 90 cents.

Update, just got gas again today, somehow it's UP! Costco I paid $2.19 today (91 octane fwiw), 19th Ave&Montebello. Don't get how it's going up again when oil prices just cratered.

$1.74 is the cheapest price I'm aware of as of today (76 gas station at 27th Ave and Indian School). Last week this same station had $1.65 for regular gas.
