I've known several people who either currently live or have lived in Ahwatukee. All of them are surprised at their Phoenix address because all of Ahwatukee looks & feels completely separate from Phoenix, even though it's just another district of Phoenix & not a separate city. At one time, Ahwatukee was jokingly nicknamed "the world's largest cul de sac" because of the limited ways to enter or exit. This has since changed, largely due to the 202 South Mountain Freeway extension.
