Back in February it was announced the Christown Spectrum Costco would be closing its one of my go to Costco being going there since it opened back in 2000.

I really do think without Costco that Mall will be on its last legs.

Well it does have a Wal-Mart at one end, Target on the other side and a Bath & Body Works in the middle. Bath & Body Works is about the only reason the women in my family ever step foot in a mall anymore.

Reason why I singled Costco out is because of the food court it drives a lot of traffic so after you eat you often go visit other stores that's what I usually do after I shop at Costco then would check out the other stores while there.

I can't see JCP hanging on much longer.

A longtime Costco employee told me that their multiple reasons why the Christown Spectrum Costco is closing. But a couple of large ones was related to shrinkage and return abuse. Costco operates off of razor-thin margins.

She also said management is loyal to employees. They tend to promote from within and don't want to let people go. I forget this exact statement but something like if you worked their 10 years, the only person who could officially fire was the CEO. Meaning, the CEO had to personally sign-off on it.

I suspect the closing of Christown Spectrum Costco was timed with the opening of the brand new Surprise Costco. I understand a lot of employees from Christown Spectrum will be working at the new Surprise Costco. The Surprise location is coming along nicely (they are about 1/2 way through paving the driveway). The exterior use to say sign says: "Opening Summer". But now, the sign was updated to "Opening Early Fall, 2020". If my info is correct and the Christown Spectrum management is going to run the opening, I predict the ops store closes when Surprise opens.

I heard they were closing because Kmco the company that runs Christown was raising the rent and they were slow to make repairs. As such Costco declined to Renew their lease with the mall.

Its Sad really this Costco is unique as its the only one that's inside a mall and the forgot isn't inside the store and anyone can eat there membership or not.

I assume that is one reason. But if it was a big profit center for Costco, they would not be leaving the area.

Hard to imagine that being the case, at least from a customer standpoint. This is/was the closest Costco to our home. Surprise is a ridiculously long distance from here. My contact with Surprise is limited to trips to Wickenburg or Las Vegas, and now the 303 enables me to avoid it altogether. There are several Costco locations closer to me than Surprise.

My conversation was a few months ago so I’m going from memory. Costco wanted to put the managers somewhere versus laying them off. Several are going to the Surprise location. My point had nothing to do with customers that lived close by the ops store trying to find a new Costco that is located close by. If management wanted a job, they could jockey for those positions in the new store.

But I will make a prediction unrelated to this specific thread: Sam’s Club in Surprise is going to feel it big time!

What is Chris-Town like these days. Something like 30+ years ago I would walk there with my father and go to a fast food place (maybe Carls Jr.? Whatever was there in the late 80s).
