I saw on a teachers job site that Alhambra Schools needed teachers. Can anyone tell me about these schools? How is the area? Where would you live if your income was only $40,000 a year ?

For 40K, you could live across the street from your school. I worked there years ago as a 90usd per day substitute. It was definitely the best run school district in the state. Dr. Carol Peck was named National Superintendent of the Year. They really have some quality teachers; not the U of Phoenix slobs that seem to contaminate public education.
Getting hired there is not easy. I remember one spring, some prospective teachers came to visit. They were wearing shorts (and yes, it was hot as hell). Never saw them again. Nothing less than business attire is acceptable there. Catalina Ventura had a great salad bar. Teachers ate for free if they would stay in the cafeteria. So for about 12 bucks per day; they had very good supervision during lunch break.
I worked at every school in the district. I didn't like Barcelona and Cordova; Simpson was worse. However, the staff there were quite helpful. There was a kid at Simpson, who the teachers said belonged in jail. Well, they were right. Jeoffrey Charlie plotted and robbed, then murdered a local helado vendor. Hopefully, they still have him in a cage.

I also have a lot of respect for Madison School District. The problems there are spoiled rich kids and the fact that they are stingy--big time.

ASD is 50 times better than TUSD. Quite possibly, it is better than the latest district I worked for in a pretty wealthy area of Virginia. The kids parents raise all kinds of hell, when any discipline is handed out. At ASD, I felt the staff really stood behind its teachers.

I answered this at length yesterday, and I see the OP has made another post in the AZ forum. Hopefully, she will find my response, that I do not plan on retyping.

Isn't that information you could get from the HR office at the district?

I am pretty sure that school district employees have 403(b) accounts, not 401(k), at least that is what goes on in the district that someone I know works for.
