I think it is more of a failed retirement area, and someone had to live there.

I have always wondered the same thing about AJ, but I don't have any answers to help.

Part of the problem is your slug line. I read the question "why" because I am curious. It helps to state what your question is rather than a generic "why".

As to AJ, I don't know why there are so many problems there but it is a bit far out from Phoenix. Maybe that's why as it did not sell as retirement community. Also, it is much easier to hide from the law, if you are out of sight.

My parents live there and they live in a nice 55 plus community housing development but even my dad pokes fun at the surrounding areas. It's too bad they never gave the entire city a face lift. I really like it out there. It's nice being out of the city and by the Superstition mountains.

Aw heck I wouldn't sweat over it as long as something was learned from it. Much to my chagrin, and education, I learned how to spell up dux (hope that's right) after all the years I have lived in the desert.

They have to make meth somewhere

It's probably that line of scuzzy places that attracts those types of people. I really don't know but half of AJ is old people and the other half meth heads.

I totally agree with you. We have to drive through it to get to mil's place in gold canyon and comment every time we do about the waste it is. I've made the comment on here as well about it being a waste of mountain views... It could have been so nice. IMO it was poor planning by the city and county Being in Pinal county today isn't ideal as they still have a lot to learn on how to grow thriving cities and much of AJ was built years ago when they REALLY had no clue. Sad.
