Seems like it's a sport that is declining in popularity and not a top activity Phoenix tourists look for.

The top five activities participated in by Phoenix overnight visitors: Shopping, fine dining, visiting a state/national park, hiking/backpacking, visiting landmark/historic site.

I propose we combine them. How about frisbee golf with (silicon) wafers?

A good point. I don't think golf is exactly the draw it is anymore. It's more appealing to a dying generation of people IMHO.

"The 2010 U.S. Geological Survey reveals that Phoenix-area golf courses average more than 80 million gallons of water daily for irrigation. That's more than double the second-ranked region, Riverside County, California, which includes Palm Springs."
Currently, TSM has been ordered to cut production by the ROC government, solely due to the drought, at its main plant. Obviously, its water usage is still significant.

Actually, all of the chip vendors have been asked to cut 7-11 percent of their water. According to your link: “the company made much of the fact that the water it returned to the ecosystem after fab utilization was markedly cleaner than it had been at the intake pipe.”

Yea. Taiwan is in their worse drought since 1947. According to the guardian.com, the government cut all businesses and individuals in certain districts and they have had their water supply cut about 10 percent.
“ Homes, schools and businesses are relying on water stored in large tanks and are adopting water-saving measures, including recycling water for gardening and closing swimming pools and gyms on rationing days.”

LIke other companies, TWSC is importing water to make up the difference.

Don't the golf courses alter the climate, too? Grass and ponds? More non-native to a desert than a grizzly bear.

Apart from the water issue I worry about the ever increasing traffic problems.

Frisco Texas was once the fastest growing city in the USA and today due to their super fast growth the roads and infrastructure could not keep up nor was it properly planned in the first place.

Even after widening their rural two lane roads to 6 and 8 lanes their traffic problems have gotten worse. So much so Frisco is on the decline as people are so fed up with the traffic issues they are moving away from Frisco.

I think Buckeye will experience the same fate.

We can handle another million or so folks.

Just get rid of the cotton and alfalfa.

And dairy.

Cow farts contribute to climate change anyway.
