Incredible street art.

Click on any of the pictures on the right side of the page then you can see them one at a time.

Sit back and relax. There are a lot of them. Maybe as much as 100.

Awesome, right on the grand canal too which was just improved a lot, the city did a pretty good job adding lighting and lights at all the street crossings. Tunnels would have been better but I'm sure that would blow the budget.

I'm putting this on my calendar for the upcoming weekend. Thanks

I'm hoping they're going to do the same west of I17. With the paved trail and lights.

I remember when San Francisco sanctioned locals to paint to the walls on specific city owned properties.

Unfourtutnly, it didn't take long for other "street artists" to see this as a green light to paint, tag or whatever throughout the city.

Problems besides besides the obvious: painting on private property. Most of the "streets murals" were amateurish and an eye-sore.

Since we're talking about Phoenix here, not SF, I'll say that the city has a long history of successful murals being welcomed by the community throughout downtown. I've always enjoyed taking in new ones, such as the Prince mural when he passed some years back. This is something I enjoy about our city, personally I'd much rather see creative uses to the countless block walls around town then plain white paint.

Was mural of Prince sanctioned by the city? Or can anyone paint the side of a wall in downtown Phx assuming it's on public property?

Why would it need to be sanctioned by the city?

It's on private and the artist donated the work from the sounds of it.

It doesn't. Maybe the city of Phx doesn't have an ordinance against defacing public property or maybe they do... but don't enforce it.

Now, I agree with those who feel downtown Phx isn't attractive but the earth tone design seen on the freeways as you exit the airport look nice.

Companies are fleeing Cal but as we all know...there's tough competition for said companies.

The cleaner/more attractive downtown Phx looks the better.

It's not public property and it's not being defaced. The Prince mural in question is on the side of a privately owned boxing gym and was painted by one of the Valley's prominent mural artists.
