Well, on those hot summer nights when it's difficult to sleep, along comes the sand man to create a sand storm to send you off to dreamland. In reality, "haboobs" are big dust storms which affect certain parts of the metro area more than others. What it comes down to is: some people will get a free haboob job, and others won't!

Haboob is not a meteorological term. It's a arabic word for sand storm. It was never used in the US until the mid 2000's when the local media started using.

Much of our language is Arabic in origin. So what? The American Meteorological Society seems to disagree with you:

That's a duststorm we don't get haboobs here. They've always been called dust storms until trendy people like Detroit learned a new word!

I moved here in 2010. I have been killed in a dust storm each year.

Sweet, I’m trendy! I already feel cooler. Getting triggered over an actual word that describes a weather event that we do get here; priceless.

And by DEFINITION, that video certainly depicts a haboob.
