Put a small wall unit air conditioner in the one car garage. It helps but it's not quite there yet.

I planned on insulating the door but it's a rental and everyone says you need new springs because of the added weight. Not going there.

They have those thin insulated panels with reflective silver on one side for about $10 bucks each for a 4x8 sheet.

If I got two of those and just put them against the outside of the door with the silver facing outward, would that do anything? I'm getting radiant heat coming through the aluminum door panels. The door gets direct sunlight.

Anyone tried this method?

This is a small one vehicle garage that NEVER has a vehicle in it. It's a workshop only.

And finally there are rolls of stuff called Reflectix. It's a bubble wrap type silver thermal barrier that would go on the inside of the door.

I wonder if this is light weight enough that it doesn't require messing with the springs?

It is absolutely lightweight enough. Think the weight of a windshield reflector.

This is what we did about 6 weeks ago, it definitely lowers the temp some but it's still hot in the garage. It was worth doing for this house which we own.

I bought a roll of Reflectix from Home Depot, for about $50. I taped it to the inside or outside of sliding doors & some windows, whichever was easiest. It helped to keep some of the cold out during winter.
It's very light, in weight.

A friend of mine ways to insert styrofoam panels in to the inside of the garage door.

I'm also trying leaving the garage door open for 10-15 minutes at night to let out the overheated air, so that it doesn't transfer the heat any more to the house.

I ordered a reflective kit.

I would have done actual insulation but as it's a rental didn't want the possible issues with door springs. I need the garage door to work.
