For starters, try checking out these three apartment complexes. Check out the reviews and make sure to visit them in person, not just online:

San Valiente - Deer Valley

Biscayne Bay - Chandler

Vaseo - Moon Valley

Have fun! Don't knock yourself out!

It's not every few months that I post! I saw someone's rent increase go up by $300 in one year and I came to this forum to discuss the issue at hand. It has absolutely nothing to do with me. I was and am doing fine. I'm frustrated with the rental market as are millions of other people at the moment.

I have money saved up and I've been at my current job for years now. I am just having to learn to deal with things that are outside of my control with millions of other Americans.

Sorry that I'm not sorry. I should know better than to speak up, right? To you it may be pointless but I think wiping out the middle class is a significant issue for millions of us.

We got it.
So do you think I can qualify for a housing voucher then now that I'm barely middle class? Got to make it some how, right? I have tried alternate streams of income with an online store, etc, blogging, yadda yadda. Failed at both sadly. It is what it is but I am trying alternate streams of income.

I should start a Youtube channel and interview the middle class all over the valley for feedback and to give them an opportunity to share their frustrations. It just might be a hit!

No the increases have been insane. I went from a beautiful home in the Lago Estancia subdivision in Gilbert to an apartment I hated, to moving way out here to afford a house again because I wanted a house. The rent on that apartment was the same as my house was before the rent went way up. My place in Coolidge was a value for sure, I didn't realize what a diamond in a rough I found until after the fact, just figured it was cheap here. But even around here the rents are a lot higher than I would have expected in general, being so far out. I just checked out of curiosity, that awful awful apartment starts at $1,620 now + the 100 a month water sewer trash charge paid with rent. And it's not a great area, off Dobson and Southern. That's insane to me.

City data is mostly filled with homeowners. Arizona forum even moreso. Don't expect much sympathy from McCain land. Your best best is to move somewhere cheaper and return once you have enough for a down payment. Good luck.

Actually...most of us do think rental prices are insane BUT there is obviously a market or there would be vacancies everywhere and a push to lower rental prices. My son is graduating HS next year and he and his friends were looking at getting an apartment in Tempe...for about 10 minutes...after they saw the prices. I think they are all staying home and commuting to classes in 2022 if something doesn't change, which it most likely will not. This is why (among other factors) you see multi-generational households in high rent markets. Why young adults are living with their parents into their 20s or at least while they are in school. In the other (deleted) thread...I mentioned it was the norm when I was younger to have 2 or 3 roomates in a 3 bedroom apartment. I don't know how they would do this now without either a really good salary ($45k-$50k) which they won't have in school or subsidies from "Mom and Dad Bank and Loan".

I feel for people that have to rent...but like I said...if there were market pressures to drop that rate, they would drop. Unfortunately at this point in time...there are waiting lists for rentals. No one is building right now with the price of lumber, other materials and labor shortages. Everything (with some margin of error) is resale/already built.

Anyway...I don't have an answer for you, I don't think Gubmint Subsidized Housing is the answer, maybe rent control as a lot of these apartments were paid off YEARS ago?

I thought ASU required Freshmen to live on-campus during their first years? Maybe not a full blown requirement but they are pushing for that. If you could swing it, a dorm would be ideal for meeting new people.

They don't know that, because they don't care to listen to the plight of the youth, or it benefits them to ignore the problem.
"They" do know all kinds of younger people that are kicking butt. Heck, nowadays, folks in the trades are making 6 figure incomes. As a reminder, the top AZ public worker (AZ governor) makes $95K. What did you think you were going to make? Hey, you picked your government worker career. All of a sudden you are surprised because you cannot afford a house in your 20's and single!? At the risk of sounding rude, they forgot to teach street smarts at your college. OF COURSE you are going to struggle to buy a home in your 20's while you are single and working for the government. All of a sudden, "old people" like me (56) don't understand your plight. JFC, you cannot make this stuff up.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, retool or move or take in a renter or get married (or a combo). Those are your only options. Talking "theory" about how the world should be fairer will get you absolutely nowhere! Solve your problem. It's not rocket science. You could stip me of every nickel I've made, and I can do it again. This time a lot faster.

Wow! That sounds insane to me too! Seriously? $1,620? Who can afford that? Who?

Between us, one of three complexes I mentioned in an earlier post has a 1 bedroom going for $1,600? To me that is a lot for a 1 bedroom apartment and complex isn't even considered safe. I'm sure $1,600 is a lot to millions of others.

I think they expect the middle class to suck it up and take it and pay half if not most of our income to rent and remain quiet. How can the middle class fight this battle unless we join forces? If we remain quiet nothing will change for the better.

There are too many of us and not very many of them so I think we need to saddle up our horses and make our voices known.

The media only shares two extremes. The very rich and the very poor. What about the silent majority? We do and need a voice and now is a better time than ever.

What is going on is not right and it will have an adverse effect on society. It's cruel and I for one am speaking up about the issue at hand.

Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it.

I appreciate your honesty. Where can one move to when this is happening all across the United States? it's everywhere. Wait until the price of gas doubles next year! People will really be in shock when that happens!

I was hoping to connect with some renters on here but if it's all homeowners then I'm ___ out of luck. Oh well. Thanks.

The sky is falling shtick is getting boring. The price of gas will not double next year. The poor will not be living in luxury apartments while the middle class is homeless.

The cloudiness makes taking a walk somewhat nice. That’s free and can be a nice mental reset.
