I guess the Coyotes are trying to make up some lost revenue when they move into ASU's new 5,000 seat hockey arena this fall, where the tickets will range from $110 on the low end to $510 on the high end.

It will be interesting to see how many of the games they are able to sellout with those prices. I will say, you will be able to see an NHL game, in a very intimate setting, for at least the next 3 years, that's for sure.

Now that they are in the East Valley, it will be put or shut up to those who insisted that is where the team belonged. I'm sure if they don't draw well, people will complain that the prices are too high or the traffic around ASU's campus sucks or something else.

The NHL must be desperate (?) to stay in the Phoenix market, to allow a team to play in a 5,000 seat arena for 3 years in the sunbelt!

NHL is allowing them to play in a 5k seat arena because their is no other viable location while an arena is built in Tempe. They are tired of Glendale, they don't want to deal with Sarver.

High prices have been known for months.

There are other viable arenas, they are just not located in Arizona; they are in places like Kansas City, Houston and Quebec!

Not a hockey fan but it would seem a 5000 seat arena is more in line with a minor league team.

Has pro hockey ever been big here?

Most college hockey arenas range in size from 1,000 to 7,000. The ones larger than that are in northern states with schools that have a rich hockey tradition or they share the arena with the basketball team.

The largest college hockey arenas are:

Value City Arena in Columbus, OH, capacity 17,500, shared with the Ohio State basketball team

Kohl Center in Madison, WI, capacity 15,325, shared with the University of Wisconsin basketball team

Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, ND, capacity 11,640

3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis, MN, capacity 10,000

I live really close to ASU. Not really a hockey fan but an NHL game might be a cool thing to check out.

At $110 for the worst seats I wouldn't walk across the street to attend a game, let alone drive 5 miles and deal with the campus.

What were prices at the old place? How are prices at other NHL games across the country?

The only reason the prices are that high, is because the arena only holds 5,000 people.

There's no way they will be selling last row tickets in a 5,000 seat arena for $35!

What's going to happen with Westgate? I assume they still use it for concerts and such, but after all of the hype around the project at the beginning it seems like it was a giant bust, especially if there won't be a sports franchise supporting it.
I despise the mentality in professional sports that municipalities are obligated to build even the crappiest teams a new stadium every 15 years.
When I lived in Phoenix, I loved seeing the Roadrunners play at the coliseum, but I had mixed feelings about the Coyotes coming to town. On one hand, I was excited to have NHL hockey in Phoenix. On the other, I knew realistically that the market wouldn't be able to support an NHL team. I am amazed they have stayed in Phoenix as long as they have, but their financial struggles over the years should not have been a surprise to anyone.

Tempe isn't obligated to build anything, try reading up on the plan eh , it's privately financed. The plan is it convert a landfill eyesore into a nearly $2 billion dollar mixed use development centered on the arena. A good owner makes all the difference in the world, see Diamondbacks in 2001 versus 2021 and for the first time since coming to Arizona the Coyotes may finally have that with Alex Meruelo.

While the coyotes have struggled the hockey culture growth in Arizona is undeniable and the Coyotes have helped this. Alex isn't a man who has made his billions making bad bets on building value, maybe this will be the one that doesn't pencil out but I'm not betting against his track record.

I stand corrected. Thank you for that information.

I still despise the mentality, but apparently that is not applicable here.
