Phoenix, not AZ ranks in top ten for tech jobs in the country, Ohio is beating up in increase in the number of tech jobs. All I hear is all these tech jobs flowing in AZ but the rest of the country is beating up? What is going on?

We’re not a legit major tech hub. We have a few industries here and there but we’re mostly skipped with larger established tech companies. San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle are true tech hubs for the west. Portland and Denver also get a lot of tech jobs but they are smaller cities. They usually don’t make these reports. Sometimes Colorado will show up. A lot of the misinformation is that all these jobs are leaving California and that is not true with tech. They may move headquarters but the jobs stay. Arizona is skipped over for Austin and Denver for tech job growth. This trend started in the mid to late 2000s. Both of these cities have Google and Apple regional offices along with all the other top tech companies. Go through a directory of large tech companies and you will find offices in both cities.

States like Ohio may be losing people but they still have many Fortune 500 companies. Similar to Illinois. In the south, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida are the tech hubs.

Even though we are not a huge hub now that is changing. Smaller companies are forming here that I could see become Fortune 500 companies tomorrow. 20 years ago most of these large tech companies were very small or not even in existence. Arizona does show up on some tech jobs lists though.

Pretty sure the ONLY areas that AZ would increase on that list in Manufacturing with TSMC, ON Semi and the Intel expansions. Samsung may be opening a facility in Queen Creek (rumor has it). All the data centers being built or existing (Apple, MS, Cyrus One, Iron Mountain, Digital Realty, Aligned Energy, etc.) only add 30 or so full time jobs each. That is a huge footprint of power and HVAC for 30 employees...and added noise pollution. There are some little software startups around, some have gotten bigger, but for the most part our "tech jobs" are IT support/networking/security.

Until someone starts the next Amazon in Phoenix, our grads and talent will most likely relocate to where the jobs are. Besides, what is more exciting as a new grad or young adult than to get a lucrative job, move to a city different from where you grew up and create new "things". Take the leap, meet new people and have new experiences. That is what youth is for.

Exactly, Phoenix was the fastest-growing big city in the United States between 2010 and 2020 as it added 163,000 more residents, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Must be terrible in Phoenix.

You do realize the link you reviewed is a one month snapshot of time right? When you look at a more longer view of tech jobs added, using the same source company (Comp TIA), you get a more complete picture.

People are moving here in droves. If I post a rental home on Zillow (East Valley) I can expect my phone to start ringing off the hook. Which is why I no longer provide a telephone#.

Potential applicants must contact me through Zillow messaging.

Still isnt great. We are 14th largest state by population but 17th for tech, over half being manufacturing jobs and that is the only segment actually growing in your link.
