I was wondering, what is your typical first month for using the AC?

On average, it is usually April. March is the absolute earliest for us.

I turn on the heat when I get cold and turn on the air when I get hot. Month of either is not relevant to me.

We never once had to use the AC in January or February; our house stays cool enough during these months even on the warmest days. March is the absolute earliest we ever had to use it, with April being the typical average.

For heat, December is the norm, although there have been rare occasions we have started in November.

Turned it on during the Superbowl. It was hot with all the cooking going on. Also, I have a new unit this year that had only been in heat mode, so I was over-anxious. Otherwise, probably March when soil temps warm up enough that the slab won't act as a heat sink anymore and the house gets hot.

I know a popular option here with newer thermostats is auto-changeover mode, where the thermostat will call for AC if the temperature goes above a certain setpoint and will call for heat if it falls below a certain setpoint.
