There have been people here who always seemed to be happy about Phoenix growing - even though that naturally led to more sprawl and more heat (via more paving, etc.).

But with national headlines blaring about this major long stretch of 110+ heat, do you think it will give people pause if they're thinking of moving here, or moving their business here?

Anecdotally, I've known some folks up in the northern climate areas that got the hell outta Phoenix after a couple of years because of the weather. Most stay.

Gotta love the "Pure Michigan" ads on TV out here.

Never saw an ad for Gilbert in the Detroit area.

Default I left partially due to the desert heat

Yes, the heat and water shortage news has damaged Phoenix image. I lived in the valley for 11 years. It is a nice place and I miss it sometimes. I had a lot of good times and loved the sunshine. After 11 years and a couple of horrific summers I left. It's only getting worse. I remember in the summertime it seemed like there was nothing alive outside except for lizards. I also don't think that population growth is a good thing like it used to be.
Another issue with Phoenix is that the economy crashes hard.

I think there will be less people moving to the Phoenix area, for year round living. Which is probably a good thing.

This current pattern of extreme heat in your area, has been making the news all month. That has to have some impact on people or businesses. that are considering a move there. The summers are getting hotter all over the country, but Phoenix is really feeling it.

I wish all of you the best, and I hope none of you have to deal with ac problems.

I used to always search the FEMA site for flood risk..now I look at www.riskfactor.com. One of the factors is heat. Not pretty. We are also in the first inning of homeowners insurance hysteria/shakeout. Counting the two summers I left for three months, I have done 5 PHX summers and 2 in BHC. Done about 10 more in places known for being hot as Hell, and quite a few in Virginia, where my Floridian uncle stated you needed gills to breath in August VA, but none of it came close. You want to see the man with a pitchfork, go to Phoenix. It took a 75%+ housing crash to bring me back last time...the way things are going, a paid for condo could cost you 1500 per month bottom line. Unusual times.

What heat wave you mean summer. I hope so all these transplants are making this place worse. So let's see instead of 108-119 it's 110-119. People act like it's normally cool.

Amen! This heat hyperbole is nearly as bad as the supposed water shortage.

A lot of Michigan is a chithole. My nephew and his family will be moving out here in a few weeks from Michigan. My sister and brother-in-law also plan to move out in a couple of years - just need to get their homes in order and put them on the market.
