I think this is the gravel pit near 202 and Alma School, which is technically on a county island.

This will be much closer to 90% of the fanbase than Glendale; not in Mesa itself, but mostly from Scottsdale, Chandler, and Gilbert.

That's fairly central. So yes, a much better location than Glendale.

It seems like many Scottsdale residents have a bias against the arena being in Mesa, preferring it to be in their own town or on tribal land near Talking Stick Resort, despite this Mesa location being much more central for most of the fanbase than Scottsdale alone. Chandler and Gilbert also make a significant portion of the Coyotes fanbase.

Curious - where did you hear that? I thought I read before that the City of Scottsdale didn't want anything to do with it. So if some of the residents don't like it, they better either contact their city gov't, or accept it.

Where did you see Gravel Pit? The article notes the old Fiesta Mall location...are they buying the Scarizona land? Sorry...skimmed the article but didn't see them mention Alma School/202?

^^edit

So ESPN says it is an empty parcel in NW Mesa which would match up to 202/101 intersection...

Gary Bettman can be lifted off life support with this news. His pet is staying in AZ.

Do you want the Coyotes to leave AZ? I am a hockey fan and I don't want them moving somewhere else. In this case, I agree with him.

"We appreciate the tremendous support that we have received from many communities, elected officials, and community leaders who have expressed their desire to see the Coyotes remain in the Valley permanently," the team said Wednesday. "We would also like to thank NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly for their steadfast support of the club's efforts to find a permanent arena solution, and for their recognition that Arizona is a tremendous hockey market."

Real hockey fans aren't going to 10 less games per year if the damn rink is built in Mesa, Scottsdale, or that Godforsaken town in the West Valley.

Another boondoggle in the works.

From your ESPN link, it reads: "In addition to the northwest Mesa site, the Coyotes are "looking at multiple sites so we can expect other letters of intent," a source told ESPN."

Why would they sign multiple letters of intent? Are they trying to get towns into some sort of bidding war? even after it reads: The Coyotes remain committed to building the first privately funded sports facility in Arizona history and ensuring the Valley as the club's permanent home," the team said in a statement Wednesday.
