My wife and I ae plannign on heading out west (Phoenix) for about a week to check out the area prior to making the decision to relocate. We had almost relocated years ago to the NC area and went about it all wrong. As I've stated before she is an experienced Cardiac Care Nurse and will be looking for employment. We have three kids, 8,12,17. so a great neighborhood and good school system is at the top of our list. Any suggestions on where to start our journey would be appreciated. We have heard Gilbert and Chandler? I have also looked at peoria, whcih seems maybe like a good choice due to being farther North. any suggestions? Our home price range is about $250,000 - $285,000 (4 bdr) Thank you.

I'm not sure why you think Peoria is a good choice "due to it being farther north". It's not significantly cooler even in the less dense northern part, it's still in the Phoenix metro. The northern part of Peoria is very nice, along with Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, and many parts of Phoenix itself which would also be fine. Avoiding long commutes is a good thing here, so where you live should be largely influenced by where you will be workiing.

I recommend Scottsdale Healthcare as a place to work for your wife. (SHC.org) Patients actually will travel from other parts of the city just to come to this hospital, I work at the Osborn location. Much more liberal in the way people communicate. The Shea location is more conservative and the Thompson Peak location caters more to the wealthy crowd. I am a nurse at the Osborn location and the management/CEO is really great. There are usually ICU jobs available. I live in Ahwatukee Foothills, it is a 35 minute commute and it is a safe and beautiful place to live. I work in the ED now but I worked in the unit for about 6 years....

Good luck!

Myself...I am looking to move to Virginia to get back to nature again! Moderator cut: snip

It's a bedroom community sprawl, so there will be many possibilities that satisfy your needs and price point. You'll get some ideas here, after which time the truth of it is, if you wish to make informed choices, you have to drive, drive, drive. Which is a good thing in terms of being aware; no amount of info on here can be anything more than a starting point.

Don't know where you are from now. But the work commute is measured in time here not miles. I suggest you don't buy for at least a year. Moved out from Ohio in 04 decided we don't care for Phoenix and are heading to South Carolina after the 1st of the yr.
