Hey folks! I love taking random trips, so I left Denver last night on a whim to spend my weekend and part of Monday here in Phoenix. I've never been to Arizona or Phoenix for that matter, so I figured it was about time to visit!

I'm a sightseer. I enjoy discovering a city's architecture, it's culture, etc. I like experiencing the best of the city's entertainment, shopping, etc. I really want my time here to be well spent, because I don't want to spend it all 'joyriding' (which I do enjoy, but again, I'd rather make the best of my time here).

I don't think I'll be doing any outdoor activities. This trip is really about discovering Phoenix and Arizona, familiarizing myself with the area, etc. I'm staying in the North around I-17 and Peoria. I've noted that there's a park nearby and I've considered a visit there as well.

Anyway, I look forward to your suggestions. I'd also like to find some social activities like meetups and such (I'm already looking at events on Meetup.com and Meetin.org).

Thanks,

Ron

a drive up south mountain can be interesting and provide a good lookout of the city - there is also a pretty good mexican restaurant off central ave pretty close to S. Mountain called los dos molinos - could be a nice lunch and go diversion

if you like native american history the heard museum is pretty solid

old town scottsdale is a neat place to check out - along with mill ave in tempe

if you are into such things the bullriding tour is in town and aside from the event there are some sponsored parties - jack daniels is having some events (in fact last night they brought a single barrel to a bar in Westgate) - there is also some promotional parties going on at the wigwam resort (can't vouch for them though)

the local paper, az republic, puts out an entertainment calendar every thursday and the new times is a free weekly that has an entertainment calendar as well ..... the republics will be online, and you can grab a new times about anywhere

if you are driving out of town, i'm not sure what route you are taking, but it can be nice to divert it and go through the salt river canyon and then up through the high country before connecting back into I-40 ........ a little more scenic than being tied to the 17
