I mapped DH's new job location in Phoenix. Looks like its close to glendale and surprise.

What can you tell me about these places. We are not worried about it being a good school district as my son is only 2 months old.

I looked up couples of houses on realtor.com and they seem to be decent prices.

ANy input is greatly appreciated

I'm curious as to where in Phx your hubby will be working? Phx isn't really that close to Surprise. And glendale and surprise aren't close to each other as well.

Besides that, both Surprise and Glendale are good areas to live. North Glendale is better and safer and most of Surprise is new. There is lots of traffic coming in and out of Surprise.

85053 seems to be around I-17 between Bell Rd and Greenway Rd from looking at a map.

Glendale, specifically the Arrowhead area, would be a nice place to live with a fairly short comute. Surprise is quite a bit further and you'd probably end up having to take Bell Rd all the way which would be a nightmare during rush hour.

I agree w/ HX Guy^ The commute from Surprise will not be fun. But, from the Arrowhead area it would be okay. The Arrowhead area is a nice area w/ lots of shopping and restaurants. Good luck to you and your move.

In that case, I would reccomend North Glendale anywhere from west of I-17 (Black Canyon Highway) and north of Union Hills. You can go in the Arrowhead area (very nice, more pricey), or even north (not too north) Peoria, somewhere north of Union Hills. That still wouldn't be too bad of a commute and would put you in nice areas.

I agree with the arrowhead area....try to stay in North Glendale, if thats what you want. Most of Surprise is senior's....and the rest of Glendale isn't all that nice. North Phoenix has some pretty nice area's...that's where I use to live.

There are nice areas on both east and west sides of the Black Canyon Fwy as it goes north out of Phoenix. The neighborhoods along that area have some places that you might not want to live in and then there are places that are just fine. I believe that there is a good mix of good and bad spots, lower priced homes and higher priced homes. It’s just having to look into what works best for you and finding a good home in the right location.

The Anthem area is nice but then you have to be concerned about the land problem in that area and if the house will shift and crack? There’s another topic on that problem of bad soil areas and what needs to be done when building a home.

And the traffic issue coming in and out of Anthem. Horrendous! However, it is a nice looking place to live.

They've got a widening project due to start there, too, but I think it will still be overwhelmed. I-17 is hopeless - has been for years. I've heard talk of a double-decker being built someday.
