My husband and I are thinking about moving to Phoenix in the near futre. I am an LPN and he is in car sales. We have a 9 year old daughter. I was wondering about the neighborhoods and schools. Also we are an interracial couple-he's white I am black. Any suggestions?

There are some people on this site that can tell you where the nicer parts of Phoenix are. We have a townhome in N. Phoenix and it seems like a very nice area. John C. Lincoln hospital is down on 27th ave which is not too far from our townhome. There are some areas around the central part of Phoenix that I would not want to raise children in. We happen to live in N. Peoria and love this city. Surprise is another great town and there is the Del Webb hospital in Sun City right next door. We are also getting another hospital on the west side in the near future. There is also Boswel hospital over here on the west side. Peoria and Glendale have tons of car dealerships. Homes in Buckeye are very affordable, but you would commute quite a long time to get to downtown phoenix if that is where you will work. Sounds like you have some options with your job experiences. You might want to contact a good realtor and come and visit first. We are originally from N. Calif and when people here tell you it gets hot, it gets very, very hot. Good luck.

I think I'm the lone voice of the east side...Gilbert is a good town to raise a family. We loved it there but my wife works in Apache Jct and wanted to be close to work. There are several new hospitals being built in east Mesa. Lots of assisted living facilities, urgent cares, etc. Car dealerships are everywhere.

As far as being an interracial couple, I don't think you'll have any problems. Before I retired, I was accused of being a racist several times. The line was always, "you only stopped me because I'm black." I filed that with the other lines I heard, such as: 'you only stopped me because I have out of state plates', 'you only stopped me because my car is red', you only stopped me because I'm driving a BMW', etc. etc. Thank God I never stopped a black driving a red BMW with California plates! I live in a small neighborhood in east Mesa. There's a black family a few blocks away, my next door neighbor is Filipino, across the street is Hispanic and next door to them is Vietnamese. You are more than welcome in my neighborhood, and if you're interested in a 1717 sq. ft. house is east Mesa, there are 2 or 3 for sale on my block and I'd be happy to get the info for you.
