I lived in Reno for two years. After two years of feeling like I was on vacation, I needed reality again!,lol

Reno is great. They don't have the cheap real estate like LV and Phoenix. Resort town living can seem a little strange at times.

Yeah i'd go with Phoenix. I'm moving there for pharmacy school (glendale area) in summer '09. I've only been to phoenix for my interview with the school but from what I could see it was a lot greener than Vegas. I've lived in Vegas for 2 years and am incredibly burned out (something I never thought would happen) The nightlife is not what it would seem....just a bunch of pompous tourists with rental Bimmers that think they are god's gifts to vegas. If you want a piece of suburban americana don't look to vegas. Most homes here are on about an 1/8 of an acre, not even enough room to breath....short driveways, no backyards--its unreal...and these are all new homes---its been a freakin free for all for developers the last five years. Las Vegas is the strip, nothing else. The suburbs, the schools, the healthcare are all shot....worthless. Not to mention the traffic--which is unbearable...I spend 2-2 1/2 hours per day in my car--I only live 15 miles away from where I commute to UNLV!! Before anyone posts angry remarks saying phoenix is just as bad--save it....I'm just telling you what I think of Vegas from my experiences.

Default Phoenix

I've lived in both and I agree that even though Vegas has a lot of entertainment options, Phoenix has a more 'city' feel to it... I like Phoenix much better.

Las Vegas IMHO is essentially an adult 'Disneyland'-------for those who like to drink, gamble, be phony, etc.

Too; what is hurting Vegas these days is that Arizona and California both have lots of casinos (in Indian Rez's) which siphons off a lot of potential revenue.

See, I think thats exactly what I'm looking for--"a more city feel." Las Vegas IS the strip, Nevada IS Las Vegas--its just so much. So extreme--its either too hot or too cold (probably just a function of living in the desert) I think eastcoasters like me find it tougher to transition than we expect. I'll never leave the southwest though--can't beat the sunshine. Do you know anything about the Phoenix area healthcare, I know Vegas has a terrible reputation for healthcare--I'm planning on starting a pharmacotherapy consultant practice when I finish grad school in 2012; can't see Vegas as the place to do that.

I was born and raised in Phoenix and I will tell you what I miss about Phoenix after living in Vegas for almost three years....

I miss the photo radar camera lights and vans mailing me traffic tickets all over the place. I have not had even one ticket here, and I drive the exact same way since I have lived in Vegas. It is not fair. Although I have not gotten one, they actually give tickets in person, I hate that. I thought we were supposed to pay $600-$1,000 in automated tickets a year?

I miss going to the casinos in Arizona and having them make me pay for drinks and cutting them off after 2 AM. What is with Vegas giving out free alcohol and serving it all night?

I miss going to the Circle K and telling me I can not buy a beer because it is Sunday and I have to wait 3 hours because it is not 10 AM.

I miss all the snobs from Scottsdale and Tempe. People are so much nicer here which I can not stand.

I also can not understand why in the 30 years I lived in Phoenix not one was born and raised in Vegas. On the other hand, I have met many people born and raised in my hometown and they made the bad decision to move here and stay. I hope you get my point.

Barry I'm a real estate agent here and hear this dilemma alot. I haven't seen Vegas lose yet! We have one of the most exciting cities in the world. World class shopping, entertainment and restraurants. Keep in mind locals only go to the strip when we have company in. The cool thing about Vegas ispeople don't realize we have a city outside of the strip. We have Mount Chareston with snow in winter and camping in summer. Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire are short drives from here. Lake Mead for fishing and boating, 4 hour drive to LA and one of the busiest airports to go anywhere you want! I also doubt you will see a Elvis impersonator in Phoenix sitting down to a 4.95 Steak dinner! Please let us know if we can help you out in a Las Vegas Home search at vegashomesandcondos.net

There's a bit more diversity in LV, a result of the bright lights attracting more folks looking for jobs.
Water supply is a big issue in LV. IMO, cost of living is higher too.

I think it all depends what you're looking for at this phase of your life.
Being single and all.
