I've lived in Arizona before, and it was fine. This time around I've narrowed my choices to Phoenix and Las Vegas. I'm going to buy a home, and there are great deals in both places. If anyone out there is real familiar with both, I would really appreciate their comments. The best Mexican carryout I've ever had was from Phoenix, and the best grapefruit I've ever had came from Phoenix, also. Go ahead, throw in your two pesos. I'm mid 40's, SWM, no kids, and a university business graduate (I like to be outside). Best of luck to everyone and thanks for the free advice.

others will be better at this than I am, but here is my take (more from friends and family living in both areas and of course visits) I think I would opt for Phoenix.. The positive thing about Vegas, in my opinion, even if you don't like to gamble is all else there is to do, but locals don't do those things anyway. The weather, as hot as it gets in the summer, is still normally lower than Phoenix..

Even with the rise in prices for Vegas you can still get a decent meal for less than most places.

all that being said, I just think Phoenix is more of a real city and not only for tourists.

Well, you sound pretty easy going, so I think either city would be fine. However, like the other poster said Phx is more of a "real" city. Plus, if you like to be outside there is, IMHO, more to do in AZ. Have you checked out the Cave Creek/NE Scottsdale area? I don't know what your budget is, but if you like the outdoors, it is a great area...You can still get to Phx in 30-40 minutes but can be in quite remote hiking/camping areas in the same amount of time.

Tough call here.

My favorite part of the Las Vegas metro area would be Boulder City.

Phx's strong suit is it is a warmer in the winter but does have noticeably hotter summers as well.

Otherwise: both metros are almost a wash IMHO

If your into sports then Phoenix wins. We have everything from the Fiesta Bowl to MLB spring training.

If you are into nightlife and Casinos then Vegas is the way to go...

I agree with Ibarrio. Phoenix wins hands down in the sports arena. We have all four professional sports franchises, which is something that even L.A. can't boast about. The Phoenix metro area does have a fairly active nightlife, but it's pretty scattered, and not really found much in the city of Phoenix. For that, the suburbs of Tempe & Scottsdale are the places to go.

In comparison to Las Vegas, Phoenix has more job opportunities in terms of various professions. In Vegas, you're pretty much limited to the hotel, casino, and restaurant industires for the choices. The Vegas Strip looks & feels somewhat like New York's Times Square, so you get a little bit of a "big city vibe" there ... but outside the Strip area, there's not too much happening. Remember that Vegas is still quite a bit smaller than Phoenix. Also, the climate of Las Vegas is even drier than Phoenix's (if you can believe that). They receive only about four inches of rain a year, and Phoenix receives twice that amount on average. The heat is equally intense in both cities during the summer, but Vegas gets a little colder in the winter.

You haven't given us much to go on, like if you need to be near a job, an airport, etc... But if you've lived in AZ you know how much is going on here sports, concerts, festivals, restaurants, etc... Vegas is kind of like living in or near Disneyland. I think it would get very old very quickly.

Phoenix is the place to live and Vegas is the place to party. I lived in Phx and then I moved to Vegas and then I said I gotta get the heck out of there and moved back to Phx. That was many years ago. I still like to take weekend trips to Vegas.
