Ehh; Yeah. That's pretty much Maryvale.

Don't worry though.
You're not going to shot or robbed in broad daylight, walking down to the store.
Just play it safe; Don't walk the streets alone at night. Lock your doors.
You'll be fine.

I agree, that's the same advice I would give to anyone no matter what part of town they stayed.

SurfingGat, you'll probably be alright.

A hooker once propositioned me at the Circle K on 51st Ave/McDowell. Have fun!

Maryvale is a slum ... no question about it. If you watch the newscasts, a large portion of the drive by shootings, gang activity, drug labs, and other crimes happen in Maryvale. It started out many years ago as a district created specifically for affordable housing. However, when neighborhoods cater to the lower income crowd, that's when the trouble starts. I remember going through Maryvale on a city bus in the early '80s, and it was pretty bad then. It's even worse now from what I understand. Might be best to arm yourself, and wear a bullet proof vest!

That's unnecessary and you know it.

I'm NOT saying Maryvale is a safe and welcoming part of the city;
But it is NOT the kind of place where you'll get shot just going to the corner store.

Mind your business and be courteous; that's all you need to do.
It's common sense for most people.
And most of the people here AREN'T looking for trouble. They're just struggling to get by like the rest of us.

The poster has no reason to panic or invest in firearms.

I agree. Maryvale is a working class area, not a "slum". The crime there is mostly bad guy on bad guy. And it's as safe as anywhere else in this city during daylight hours. At night the trouble comes out, but again, unless you are a gang banger, or a drug or human smuggler, there is little chance of getting caught up in that stuff.

Uhm why not invest in firearms. It is your constitutioan right, and I would recommend everyone exercise their rights no matter where you live.

Alhambra Elementary School District overachieves more than any school district I have worked for. I would take that part of Maryvale over Sunnyslope. The northern parts are better than the southern parts.
