Nice pics everyone!
In this environment, I believe if you are to buy a house and considering a pool, it's best to buy one already with one. Unless you're flushed with disposable income, custom pool construction after closing is tough.

BTW Boomerbiker....
I have a pool that's very similar to your's, if not the same style and size. Can you tell me what your capacity is? That info wasn't available to me when I purchased the property.
It'll help in calculating chemicals and costs.

wgn, it has been a few years since we sold that house - I seem to remember the pool was 15 x 30 and 27,000 gallons.

YAZ, I remember the pool contractors were willing to lower their prices in the slow season - fall and winter. In today's slow economy many contractors will work for much less, just to keep busy!

Even in Wisconsin a pool is a must, at least from my prospective.

PRO
1. It makes your house more marketbale. Since there are so many homes with pools, many people won't even look at your houses that don't include pools

2. Great for families. Kids love it. You dog will love it.

3.Having backyard bbq is more fun with a pool.

4. Makes the summer more tolerable. Taking a dip right before you go to bed can instantly cool you down and make summer more fun

CON
1. It costs a lot of money: It costs a lot of money to build a pool and pay for chemicals, cleaning etc. I spend about $50 a month on cleaning and chemicals and that's really a steal because most people I know who pay for pool upkeep pay around $100 a month

2. Maintenance: maintenance is involved. Keeping it clean. Backwashing it. Making sure the pump works. Making sure your pool sweeper or creepy crawler works

3. If you don't have a family, it's not worth it as you probably won't use it.

Overall: I would probably say it's a luxury you can avoid. It's kind of like a luxury car. It's fun but you don't really need it
the only con ive had in the phx metro was backswimmers and they bite like hell

Or ya can do what my Dad used to do.

I bought a foreclosure last September it have a diving pool 8 1/2' deep 90' around outside it`s bean shaped. It needs a new filter and to be replastered. It has just a few feet of water in it now. I had a guy look at it he said it could be painted and maybe get a few yrs out of it and said probably at least 5k to replaster it. I will take some pics of it tomorrow
