You are right about the areas with HOA's. They are immaculate. I was impressed to say the least. I live in Oregon right now and for 10 months of the year we are huddled in our home trying to stay out of the freezing rain and the cold, blowing wind. We average 119 inches of rain per year just to give you an idea.
Anyway, I was so jealous of all the people riding bikes, the kids playing in the parks and the quality of the neighborhoods in general. I loved it and that's why I'm asking questions. My house here in Oregon is on the market and I'm assuming it will sell pretty quick. It's waterfront in a great area so once it sells and I buy a home someplace in the Phoenix metro area, I only hope that I'll be as happy as most of you folks are, living in such a beautiful state.
Don't get me wrong, Oregon is no doubt one of the most beautiful states in the nation. Unfortunately, one doesn't get to enjoy it much because of the drenching rain 10 or 11 months of the year.
I'm really looking forward to only having to suffer thru the hot summers. That leaves 8 or 9 months of lots of sunshine and great weather. That works for me.
Personally, I am in good shape even in 105 degree temps so I am sure I'll be pretty happy there.
I got off topic a little bit. My apologies.
I do have some questions though?? Can you give me some examples of the HOA rules or is it possible to read a copy of someones HOA agreement??? I'm just curious how restrictive they are.
The HOA information is actually a book that is 57 pages. Some items included in the Table of Contents are: Design review control, residential use, animals, temporary occupancy and temporary buildings, diseases and insects, antennas, trash containers and collection, clothes drying facilities, signs, party wall, parking, roofs, window treatments and screen doors, garages, etc.

I would say most of it is common sense to somebody that wants to live in a clean/tidy neighborhood; however, I've heard horror stories of how HOA rules can be interpreted. I would ask your realtor if she can get you a copy of an HOA book for either a neighborhood in which you are interested or just any neighborhood, because I would guess most rules are quite similar. We haven't had any problems, just the incovenience of waiting for the HOA to approve our solar screens.

Default Question about HOA's and RV parking

Maverick974,

Your realtor is correct in certain HOA's. HOA's are set up to keep certain standards in a community. My suggestion is that if you find a community and notice RV's in the back yards, then I would approach the HOA to find out the specific rules. Remember all HOA's have different rules (CC&Rs).

Is this true??? My realtor said that no RV could be seen from the road. A boat would work since it is shorter and can't be seen but I'll have a motorhome which could be seen so it can only stay on the property between 24 to 72 hours depending on the HOA rules.
Is all this true? I was hoping to park my RV on my property. I understand why they don't want an RV parked out on the road or in the driveway. That makes perfect sense to me to keep the neighborhood nice but I can't keep it in my backyard behind a fence???
What's the deal on that??? Just curious.
Are there RV storage facilities provided in these developments or do I have to find a place to store it???

Default parking on easement

We just purchased a home and have a 5' fence around yard. Our view in back yard is totally cut off by large motorhome and pickup...plus sticks up into air another almost five feet and is parked only about 1 and 1/2 feet from our fence. They have no fence except a little one around their patio. The space between is open and where they are parking but is suppose to be an easement. But because of no HOA I think we are up the river or something. There must be something we can do?????

An easement just means that someone besides the property owner has a limited right to use the property- I.e., your lot is xxx feet long, but the final xx feet has an easement to a power company to run underground lines. The land is still yours, you still have to mow and maintain it, but the easement allows the power company to repair or replace the lines whenever they need to. So, the property owner can still park there, plant flowers, etc, but couldn’t build anything there.

As to the first part of your question, call your local government office. Many cities limit rv parking & most at a minimum require that motor vehicles remain operational, registered & parked on a dust-proof surface (gravel or cement driveway)
