Hello again, my husband has been told Glendale might be a good place to live. Any advice or info about Glendale would be great! We are wanting to be in a golf course community or planned community. My kids ar 13 and 10. How are the schools, particulary the middle schools and def. the high schools? Also, is it built up with shopping and restaurants and things to do? I would love to hear from someone who knows about this area. Thanks so much!!

You may want to look into zip code area 85306, 8, 10. However I know there are some very very nice neighborhoods in other Glendale areas. Do not become closed minded on what you’re looking for and do plenty of searching. You may want to try www.zillow.com and see what you think about the pricing. You also get a good birdseye view of the neighborhood.

If you are moving to the area from out of state, please remember that you will want to live near your work location. The freeways are parking lots during rush hour and gas isn’t going down in price. You’ll want to live no more then 30 minutes away from work and if you can work at home all the better.

North Glendale is awesome, especially the "Arrowhead Ranch" area. Lots of shopping and golf courses. Beautiful areas. Pretty safe area and affluent. My favorite area up here is around 59th ave and north of the 101. Don't worry, everything is built up. All of Phx metro area is built up plenty; we have LOTS of people here. It's not just a desert.

But also remember where you will be working, as the freeways are getting too crowded with everyone moving here. The more people living here the more our freeways and streets will be too flooded with traffic (it's already too crowded as it is).

North Glendale is very nice. Consider Arrowhead, like the poster above said. A pretty area is called Sierra Verde, just north of the 101 freeway on 67th Ave. Also for new homes consider, Sonoran Mountain Ranch and Stetson Valley. Stetson has Pulte, Greystone and US Homes building there and is surrounded by mountains. Very pretty. Schools around here are Deer Valley Unified, either Mountain Ridge HS or Sandra Day O'Conner.

Going west of 75th Ave will lead you into the Peoria School District, which always has a good reputation. I've had clients that will only move into this district. Sunrise Mountain will be the high school. I may recommend the Fletcher Heights area, Westwing or Silverton subdivision. These are Peoria addresses.

Being a Glendale resident, and living in what has sadly become one of the WORST neighborhoods in Phoenix.. I should share my opinion, no?

Try to stay away from south Glendale, and southeast glendale. This is part of the Maryvale area. It was developed in the 1950's, and was at one time (from what I hear from my parent and grandparents) a wonderful place to live. the area started to decline in the 80's, and as of now, I'm sure people would much rather live in south Phoenix, than live here.

Glendale is the most 'built-up' of the west valley cities. Or at least, I'd say so. We now have 2 regional shopping centers. 1 is 'Arrowhead Towne Center' which is a traditional indoor mall. and Then theres the Westgate Project.

Westgate is home to the new stadium for the Arizona Cardinals, and the arena for the Phoenix Coyotes. There is a neat little entertainment district thats been built around the arena where the Coyotes. play. And from what I hear, there will be ALOT there when its all finished.

The neighborhoods in north Glendale tend to be very nice, the Arrowhead area, in particular. There are also nice neigborhoods in west Glendale. Among them is Rovey Farm Estates. Its pretty new, but it looks very nice.

You probably want to get in an area within the peoria school district. which would be the northwest part of the city. They tend to have the best schools in the west valley. I hear Peoria High School itself is AMAZING.

[End pointless rambling]

Glendale, for the most part, is not a nice place to live. The only area I could recommend (and highly recommend) is the Arrowhead area. Look north of Greenway and west of 67th Ave. 85306 area isn't good anymore. Beware that several times people say their home is in the Arrowhead area and is not.

Again as other have said, the north part of Glendale is nice and seems pretty affluent. I'd say to stay north of Union Hills and west of 51st Ave...anything from there west to around 91st Ave and north to past Jomax is nice and we're talking about a decent sized area, about 36 sq miles. All of zip code 85310 is good as well as 85308 north of Union Hills. There is plently of shopping and restaurants in the area or within a mile of the boundires (Bell Rd, a mile south of Union Hills, has probably hundreds of restaurants, stores, service places, movie theatres, etc). Houses are going to range from about $275,000 to over $1 million depending on size and location.

Glendale really varies from one end to the other. Arrowhead Lakes in north Glendale is the #1 wealthiest community in all of Arizona, surpassing even Paradise Valley and leaving Scottsdale in the dust. And yet it's still down-to-earth and friendly. Then you go to south Glendale and you're in gangland. It's a big town so it all depends on where you live. I have friends near 59th Ave and Hearn which is a very nice, normal, down-to-earth neighborhood. I'd recommend spending a few days there checking out neighborhoods and deciding on what you like.

The good news with all the wealth in north Glendale is all the new restaurants, retail, and everything else going up in the city.

Where did you get the information that Arrowhead Lakes is wealthier then Paradise Valley and Scottsdale?

Oddly enough.. I keep hearing that.

"The zipcode Arrowhead is in, is home to more millionaires than any other in the state."
