Okay, I'm still having a hard time figuring out where to live when I get out there. I'm leaning towards Vistancia, however, the commute is bugging me. Many reasons - price of gas, 35 mins. commute, 1st year teacher = exhausted, being a distance from my children IF I need to get to them. Plus side to living here would be a safe neighborhood and better schools.

I'm still not convinced that Verrado schools (Litchfield, I believe) are where I ideally want my High School child and my 6th grader. Verrado, plus would be that it's closer. Maybe not a plus because the I-10 would be awful. I could take Indian School Road all the way into work though. I'm wondering what this area will be like in 5 years though? West side seems to have a bad rep. I hear the more North the better.

Ahhhh, decisions

I really like Verrado; I think it's beautiful. Besides the I-10 bad rush hour traffic, I would look closer at what is around that development and what Buckeye will be like in the years to come. It's been about a year since I've been there, so I don't know what it's like currently. I read on here that the future may be bright there, but is there other commercial building going on around Verrado and in Buckeye now? What is Buckeye planning for the future? I've read on here that Verrado is doing well, but other Buckeye areas are not. Hopefully Buckeye residents can provide more info. If Buckeye's city and school plans are good then I think it is a good choice.

Regarding Vistancia and the city of Peoria, I think it is a good choice too because I know Peoria has a great school district and well thought out city plans. Check out Peoria's website to see more details. As I've shared before, there is a lot of growth occurring here also.

Best wishes in your decision!

Thanks for the replies. I really do appreciate them.

I really would like to hear from someone first hand that lives in Verrrado too. Anyone?

I live in Verado, but I must reveal that I also sell real estate and work in the Welcome Center. As far as Buckeye development there is a lot of new positive future projects. Worley Parsons an engineering firm that does contract work with APS is expanding their offices in Verrado while APS is looking to increase their work force at the Palo Verde plant. The Buckeye Mayor mentioned, I think that they are planning on adding about 100 employees each year at Palo Verde. The mayor also mentioned that about three new solar projects are coming into Buckeye and there is also a huge solar plant coming in to Gila Bend. Gila Bend doesn't have many services and Buckeye is the closest town to Gila Bend so that will bring great opportunity to Buckeye. West Valley Hospital broke ground this summer on a small emergency hospital. I think it will be a 25 or 35 bed facility. I could go on and on but let me recomend that you contact the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce to find out more about what is happening in the town of Buckeye and go to www.Verrado.com to find out more about Verrado. The next time you are in Verrado visit the Welcome Center and one of us will be happy to give you ar tour. Here is the website for the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce. Good luck!

My brother and sister-in-law used to live in Anthem and, while it the area is absolutely gorgeous, that commute can be a nightmare! Have you ever gotten caught in one of those traffic jams filled with people leaving or returning to the valley? Just curious...are they planning on opening up other ways to get into and out of the Valley?

The jams getting to Anthem are all but gone with the freeway widening though it bunches up past Anthem now on busy weekends. The jam is mostly a thing of the past (and the future, of course, as more people move here, UGH!).

More to the topic (although this is a old thread) Verrado traffic is rough at the moment. The freeway widening in Goodyear helps but traffic backs up pretty badly where the Goodyear stretch ends and the lesser completed part out to Verrado begins. Construction seems to be advancing painfully slowly on the I-10 widening - especially beyond Cotton Lane.

Yep - the expansion for the first phase was from the 101 to sarival (between estrella & cotton) - phase 2 starts and sarival and heads west to just past verrado way

the 2nd phase of expansion isn't as aggressive and not as many lanes are going to be built - there is also less span work that needs to be done in the 2nd phase and fewer interchanges so it should go a little faster

they didn't plan on having the 2nd phase started as quickly, however the stimulus money helped accelerate that project (which sucks for the rest of the SW cities that needed to front money to accelerate phase 1........)

another side note is that phase 1 and phase 2 ended up being won by different contractors

although very old this may help someone searching......

verrado middle school and verrado elementary are in the litchfield elementary school district - good district, pretty good schools, active PTO ..... Verrado HS is the Aqua Fria district - this can be hit or miss

VHS gets mixed remarks from what I hear .... sounds like they do most things well with enough glitches to cause frustration

Really nice community, but as someone who commutes to central phoenix I don't think I could handle the extra 15 minutes it would add from my current commute from goodyear
