Now that this is completed, I was wondering if there are any initial reactions on Echelmans dowtown art piece?

Here is a slideshow for those unfamiliar

Phoenix Slideshows - "Her Secret is Patience" public art piece by Janet Echelman

For $2.4M I'm not sure it's going to reap the rewards the city wants it to.

I was really curious to see how this was going to turn out. Really not what I was expecting upon seeing it in person. It looks really out of place and from a distance just seems like a tangle of wires and mesh.

It does photograph really well at night and looks much better when you can control the lighting to bring out the color in the nets which will then move with the winds.

I'm trying to think as someone who had never been to Phoenix or downtown. Walking out of my hotel and seeing that............ I don't think it would say the things the city was hoping it would.

Although kind of neat, I don't think it's a home run by any means and does little to make Phoenix a world class city. I don't think it enhances the brand. Especially for $2.4M

Is it art? Maybe in 50 years we will know, but right now, ridiculous.

I think it looks amazing at night lit up and this is exactly what downtown phoenix needs

I haven't been over to see it completed yet.... I saw them working on it from upstairs at the KAET offices right across the street from it a while back. I'll have to go take a look.

i haven't seen it in person and from the slide show you posted, i'm not even interested in seeing it in person. i think it looks lame. it moves in the wind? we don't get wind in phoenix. (except for a few weeks right about now.) it really looks lame. it's more of an embarrassment than an enhancement to the city. not that i care, i don't like phoenix anyway.....just another thing not to like here as far as i'm concerned.

I don't like it. Looks like a waste of space. Whatever happened to squares with benches and a statue or something? Who knows, maybe if I saw it in person, I'd like it?

That slide show does it no justice. I'll have my pictures up soon and then we can talk about it.

that picture does it justice as it looks exactly what it would look like to the human eye during the day

night time it looks a lot better

and it photographs fantastically at night, especially if you use the right light, angles and zoom

however, my eyes don't work like a cameras so I think the raw photos show it more in it's real view

i wish I could find the night photos I saw earlier today at work as they looked fantastic

I agree that it really stands out at night and that's really when it should be viewed. I guess the name fits...Her Secret Is Patience...as in, wait until it's dark out.
