FWIW:
Ratings | J.D. Power
Ratings | J.D. Power

Note that ratings will change a bit from year to year, so you may want to google reports from prior years.

My dad had a KB home built in 2003 in El Mirage. One bedroom would not cool or heat at all, and the walls in 3 bedrooms were not straight or level. The walls sounded hollow, and the garage only came with 1 wall outlet.

Unfortunately most of the builders on this list have gone out of business, so the list is pretty useless now.

Most builders use random contractors and/or supervisors which have very little experience, and many communities differ in build quality from one location to another regardless of the builder.

What you should focus on is the customer service after the sale. This is the main part of what makes a good company. All houses will have defects; some more drastic than others. It all comes down to the level of support you get after the sale, when you need it the most.

There are only two builders in our development we would purchase a home from and they are Ashton Woods and Shea Homes. We have a Shea home and it is holding up very well with very few issues when we bought it new. I do not care for Engle, Maracay....no thanks. TW Lewis is nice, but not in our budget.
