Hi,

My wife and I are considering moving to Phx, we want to visit it again first. I've never been, she has been there a few times as a kid. (we are 22). Do we need to car when we visit or can we use cabs and walk places?

I'd suggest you get a car unless you want to:

A) Limit yourself only to areas where the light rail goes
B) You want to pay a lot for taxi cabs (prolly be better renting a vehicle)
C) You want to confine yourself to a very small, small area that is made for walking.

Definitely need a car to really get a feel for metro Phx and enjoy your vacation.

If you move here, you can locate yourself to get to work etc, on public transit, though you will still need a car for other purposes.

without a doubt get a car - only way you can get a total feel for the metro

i know at 22 it sucks trying to find one - but it can be done

Phoenix does not have taxi cabs left and right like there are in other major cities. To get a taxi you usually have to phone it first and wait for them to come, which could waste a lot of time and money. Like everyone else said, I would suggest renting a car.

enterprise was the one I used when I was similarly situated .... but that was a while ago ..... i believe they charged an extra $25 for the U25 rentals

there could also be some smaller independent rental agencies that may be more lenient

Same here, there is usually a "surcharge" if under 25 or if you use a credit card and not a debit card that will cover your rental in case of damage.

But if you want to travel the entire metro area, try to get a car. If you're just going to visit the core/downtown areas of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe then you won't need one and taxi's are everywhere in these areas especially outside of restaurants, bars, and hotels for instance. But if you want to see Glendale, Mesa, North Phoenix, and North Scottsdale I'd get a car for sure.

We stayed at a hotel on Jackrabbit, near Camelback Mountain....

Anyway, it would be like 15 buck to head out to the restaurants; like near Bungalow.

Perhaps that was closer to Scottsdale...

But from one visitor to another.
