Wife and 3 kids are moving to PHZ AZ area spring/summer 2010 and have visited, looked around and liked Litchfield area. Please give me all your opinions about the area. We were there in Feb. but the economy is worse now. What's the housing prices like these days?

Peace,

WL

Prices vary quite a bit. Depends on if you want the "true" LP inside the walls, close to the golf course? Do you want a cookie-cutter subdivision outside the walls?

I lived in LP (inside the walls) for 10 years and if I had to return to AZ I would move back there in a heartbeat. We bought an older ranch and completely remodeled it. I loved that my kids could walk to school and we could hear churchbells at home. We had more of a small town feel than the homogenized plasticity of a subdivision. I was even able to ride my bike to where my horses were stabled right outside town on Camelback. It was a wonderful place to have kids.

We looked at houses, mainly abandoned foreclosures, just to get a feel for the houses in the area and there were both inside and outside the walls. We saw so many I can't remember which were in and which were out. They all had 3-4 br, 2-3 bath, some ranch, some 2 story, all w/ fenced in yard, basically all that we were looking for. I'm not interested in golf courses, just a place the family can play outside without being kidnapped or shot at.

Thanks for the info and any additional.

peace

Nothing has changed in terms of the neighborhood desirability. Prices for foreclosed and short sale homes have gone up and selection has gone down.

I got married at the lake inside the walls of Litchfield Park. Very beautiful town.

True LFP (inside the walls) is like a small town community within the surrounding cities...the houses are older and individual. It is a nice area. Plus, it is sandwiched in between Goodyear and fake LFP (aka county land)...which are nice, safe areas.

How do you determine what is "inside the walls" or not when searching for homes online? I'm still in Wisconsin but headed south within a month and didn't know there was a difference between the inside and outside of LP until this forum? ... Thanks!

Don't even use the word "kidnapped". Unless you are in the drug or illegal alien business, despite all the media blah-blah, there's no risk of that in LP or anywhere else in the Valley. As far as getting shot at, in or out of the walls, LP is a safe place. Hope you find the sort of house you are looking for.

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than myself will chime in, but I believe if the street address has 3 or 4 numbers it is inside the walls.

Example:
14424 Litchfield Rd. would not be inside the walls (think newer cookie-cutter subdivision)
2448 Golf Course Dr. would be within the walls.

I THINK that is a way to know. Also, the houses within the walls will be a bit older. Personally, if you don't have to have a huge, new house I would live within the walls.
