I'm curious since we are the 5th largest city in the country, there surely is a population base to support some theme parks, more water parks, and other things that could bring a little stimulation to this stagnant environment.

The ratio of entertainment to the population is severely low for such a large population.

All I ever hear in here is how the weather is so wonderful and dry, but yet all the theme parks are in Florida where everyone bashes it for humidity. The largest indoor waterpark is in Minnesota??? Cities like Vegas, Austin, Houston, Anaheim, Atlanta all have some major attractions. Whats our real claim to fame and main attraction that people would say, if you go to Phoenix, you have to go to the ... What? Golfing & lounging poolside at resorts excluded

I am really baffled by the lack of mass entertainment to be found in a city of this size... I see this as an entertainment starved place. Whats the draw to actually vacation in Phoenix since there isn't really anything other than countless resorts to lounge by a pool, which can be done anywhere, or to golf?

Are there actual votes that take place and population votes it down because they don't want congestion from extra tourists? Or is it never considered for some reasons that are unbeknownst to me.

I'm speaking specifically Phoenix, and not whats hours away, since I wouldn't count flying here and driving to the Grand Canyon, or Sedona and then staying there.

I can't think of anything less fun than something that attracts crowds of cars and unwashed masses of people. And I surely don't want my tax dollars going to support giveaways for such businesses.

It's too hot here in the summer (travel season for kids) for traditional theme parks. Plus, we are really in the So Cal market as far as theme parks go, and there are already several over there. It wouldn't be feasible for developers to build one 5 hours away, when those people already have many to serve them. I know several people have proposed them, but they never happen, and would not be successful. Waveland or whatever it's called that is proposed for Mesa, or other large waterparks are what works.

I see... As I suspected, those seeking to move here should make note of a population that is resistant to anything other than shopping plazas and golf courses.

Unwashed people?? What a ludicrous outlook.

People who can't leave town and can't sit at home go tour model homes on the weekend. Those are our amusement parks. When you go to Phoenix "make sure you tour the Toll Brothers homes in Litchfield"

I took some heat from the urbanistas a while back for calling light rail an amusement ride. But everyone I know who has been on it, went for the sheer thrill of it and not to actually get anywhere.

(Well except for my brother-in-law who took it on his way to rob some place or other. I guess that is a business use).

Did he claim the fare as a tax deduction?
