I like the gypsy (moving around) in my blood...too much planning drives us crazy...the stories I could tell, but we have always come out fine or better, maybe just luck Against the good advice and statistics of all, I would say go for it...You are young, if you don't like it, you can always go back

After dropping out i felt like no school was better i went thru something i cant explain.
I do have a girlfriend who lives in phx with a wonderful family an we have been battling long distance for over 4 years. I rather i go live there then her come here in a year i can not begin to imagine 4 more year of this. I love new york but only for about 3 months june july and august and if anyone was here this summer we did not even have a summer. We can skip summers so easily here but we never miss a winter lol thanks ughhhh i hate winterr hah
did i mention about 2grand for a cheap little apartment?
You got accepted at COLUMBIA and you are going to attend Community College in Phoenix??? Okay...so, like, just to get accepted by Columbia you must be a phenomenal student. You couldn't get any financial aid and you got accepted by Columbia? Oh, honey. So, three years from now (after working one year to establish residency and attendind CC for two years) you will be accepting your AD from CC when you could be just completing your third year at Columbia? And you won't have any regrets...at all???

I am a firm believer in live and let live, but if you are planning on giving up a solid, union job and a chance to go to Columbia for CC in Phoenix and no job to go to, at least at this point...well, IMHO, that goes way beyond whether or not you enjoy winter or not. And, having helped my son's gf look for a "cheap little apt." in the Phoenix area, I can tell you that if you want to be in a truly safe, nice area, that will barely pay your security deposit and two months' rent. What if the two months is up and you still don't have a job?

I'm sorry, I wasn't going to jump in here, but I am the mother of an 18yo son, and if he was even talking about doing what you are talking about here, I would think he was nuts. But it's your life, so I just hope that you make the best decision for you, both for now and for the long term.

Good luck!

In 1985 I moved to a military base and had $1000 cash and a $1000 car. I was 26. When you are young like that and can find a place to rent close to work, you have no worries. Your salary is very low, so if you are a good performer, you are not going to be fired. You can work and save another five years to get yourself in a better apartment. Especially today, there are a lot of boomers in the work force. They are much higher paid than what you are going to be paid in Phoenix. You will have a more secure job in Phoenix than us older boomers.

No it wouldn't have been the case for me, because I went to the State Uni system in Virginia, and graduated debt free. To this day, I see families making the same mistakes over and over. Squandering huge amounts of money on private schools, when the State schools will do just fine.

Your 500 per week job in NYC, may only pay 350 in PHX, if you are simply a CNA. Nurses do quite well, though, and I do wish you the best of luck in advancing your education.
