It's the NWS in general. Whenever there's a major Pacific storm headed our way, they always exaggerate how much precipitaiton will fall. An inch of rain was predicted for the Phoenix metro area, and up to three inches in the higher elevations outside of Phoenix. Nothing anywhere close to those amounts have been measured thus far.

National Weather Service Watch Warning Advisory Summary
Quote:
ESTIMATED TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH AROUND AN INCH IN THE PHOENIX AREA AND 1 TO 3 INCHES NORTH AND EAST OF PHOENIX EAST ACROSS SOUTHERN GILA COUNTY AND NORTHWEST AND NORTH-CENTRAL PINAL COUNTY. ISOLATED AMOUNTS OVER 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN.
Needless to say, I don't trust much of anything the NWS predicts in terms of precipitation. That's why I'm having a difficult time believing their forecasts for a wet winter. December, January, February, and March are supposed to be relatively wet according to the averages. When we start getting the quantities of rain that we received in the winters of 1982-1983, 1992-1993, and 2004-2005, then I'll believe it ... but not until then.

I'm disappointed at the way these winds are starting in right now and drying out the atmosphere. There's even a blowing dust advisory until 11 PM. First, they said heavy rain tonight, and now they're talking about blowing dust??? Where are the heavy rains and flash floods they were predicting earlier???

Flash floods are definitely here in Moon Valley. I don't ever remember my carport flooding but it did a couple of hours ago. I also know we need the rain so I'm glad it has rained all day and night.

I know exactly what you mean, but I think they amplify the watches and warnings to get people prepared just in case there are floods and severe storms.

A weather forecast doesn't always mean accuracy, I think that's where the weathermen mess up. It's better to be safe than sorry though.

I'm not negative, I love the rain. I think most of us are thankful for the few times every year when it rains around here.

I can't speak for your facebook friends but maybe they just don't like the coldness and the high winds that went along with this rainstorm. Just my guess.
